Bruins, Madey Top Leaderboard After Day One at Wyoming Cowboy Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Senior Cole Madey is tied for first after a 36-hole day at the Whirlwind Golf Club, as UCLA is two shots ahead through day one at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
As a team, the Bruins are 18-under 558 following two rounds. UCLA shot a 13-under 275 in round one and a 5-under 283 in round two.
Madey is at 8-under 136 after 36 holes. He posted a 3-under 69 in the morning on five birdies (No. 2, 11, 14, 16 and 17) and two bogeys. In the afternoon, Madey recorded a bogey-free, 5-under 67, making birdies on No. 5, 10, 12, 13 and 17.
Senior Jack Ireland, playing as an individual, is tied for seventh at 6-under 138. He made a five-under 67 in round one on six birdies (No. 1, 2, 9, 11, 14 and 16) and one bogey. In round two, Ireland notched a 1-under 71, posting seven birdies, including four in a row from No. 2-5. He also had birdies on No. 8, 12 and 13, two bogeys and a quad.
Junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara and sophomore Eddy Lai are tied for 10th (-5, 139). Yoshihara started with a 5-under 67, making six birdies (No. 2, 3, 5, 7, 17 and 18) and one bogey. In the afternoon, he shot an even-par 72 on four birdies (No. 5, 9, 15 and 18), one bogey and a triple.
Lai shot a 4-under 68 in round one on five birdies (No. 7, 12, 16, 17 and 1) and one bogey. In round two, the sophomore recorded a 1-under 71, tallying two birdies on No. 11 and 2 and one bogey.
Senior Patrick Murphy is tied for 40th (E, 144). He shot a 1-under 71 in round one on six birdies (No. 7, 9, 12, 13, 18 and 2) and five bogeys, while in the afternoon, Murphy had one birdie on the 17th and two bogeys in a 1-over 73. Freshman Sean Maruyama is tied for 76th (+5, 149). He posted a 3-over 75 in round one on four birdies (No. 3, 4, 17 and 18), three bogeys and two doubles. In round two, Maruyama had a 2-over 74 on four birdies (No. 5, 11, 13 and 15), two bogeys and two doubles.
The final round will be a shotgun start on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., as Yoshihara and Madey open on the first, Lai on the second and Maruyama and Murphy on the third. Ireland begins on the 18th.
