STANFORD, Calif. - The second-ranked Bruins' offense had five hits in Friday's series opener at Stanford, but also left seven on base, as UCLA dropped a 2-1 decision.
Junior Bubba Nickles posted two of the five UCLA hits, while senior Taylor Pack, redshirt junior Rachel Garcia and sophomore Briana Perez each had one.
All three Bruin pitchers saw time in the circle. Freshman Megan Faraimo started and allowed two runs and six hits in four innings. Sophomore Holly Azevedo struck out one in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, giving up a walk and a hit, while Garcia recorded a pair of outs, including one by strikeout.
Stanford (32-13, 8-8 Pac-12) got on the board in the second on a two-run homer by Emily Schultz.
UCLA (43-3, 17-2 Pac-12) answered in the third, as Nickles led off with a single, moved to second on a Perez sacrifice and scored on a Garcia single to left. But the Bruins had only three baserunners from that point on, including none reaching second base.
The Bruins look to rebound on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will air on Pac-12 Network Los Angeles.
