LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's soccer team defeated Westmont 3-0 on Tuesday night in exhibition play at Wallis Annenberg Stadium in the first interscholastic competition under first-year head coach Ryan Jorden.
Junior forward Milan Iloski was a standout for the Bruins, recording a team-high three points on the night.
He assisted on Marcony Pimentel's first-half goal, then converted on a penalty kick opportunity in the second half to double UCLA's lead.
Pimentel, a junior midfielder and transfer from Pitt, found the back of the net in the 30th minute to open the scoring. After receiving a pass in the offensive third from Iloski, Pimentel found space on the fringe of the 18-yard box to the keeper's left, slotting a left-footed shot into the bottom-left corner of the net.
Freshman forward Jefferson Alade pounced on a loose ball in the box after a UCLA corner kick to close the scoring with just 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
UCLA out-shot the Warriors 18-6 for the match. Starting keeper Justin Garces made a pair of saves while redshirt sophomore Cameron Douglas made one save – a diving stop to his left – in 21 minutes of relief.
The Bruins play one more exhibition this week, traveling to Omaha for a contest on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. PT. UCLA officially opens the regular season with the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic starting against Northwestern on Friday, Aug. 30 at 2:00 p.m. PT. The Bruins host defending national champion Maryland on Friday, Sept. 6 in the team's home opener.
