
Smith to Open Season at Oracle ITA Masters

MALIBU, Calif. โ UCLA men's tennis junior Keegan Smith will be the first Bruin in action as the new season gets underway Thursday at Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif. Play from the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center will continue through Sunday.
Smith is the first representative of the program to participate in Oracle ITA Masters since Gage Brymer and Martin Redlicki both made the 2016 draw. Each won his first-round match, while Brymer ultimately advanced into the third round. The event is in its fifth year.

Thirty-two men and 32 women will play in singles tournaments and be placed in a mixed doubles draw. The winner of each singles tournament will earn a spot in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, to be played Nov. 9-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.
Live scoring will be available for all matches. Live streaming will be available for all matches played at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center and select matches played at the Malibu Racquet Club. Access to live scoring and live streaming will be available on the ITA's Event Information page. The final rounds of each tournament will be aired on ESPN3.

On May 25, 2019, Smith teamed with Maxime Cressy to give the UCLA men's tennis program its third NCAA doubles championship in four years. The pair went 21-0, including a 15-0 record against nationally-ranked opponents. Smith earned ITA All-America recognition for the second time in as many years and was deemed the ITA Southwest Region Player to Watch. The San Diego native also stood out in singles play, where he went 24-6 to run his career mark to 64-13. Smith enters the season slotted at No. 20 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings and No. 12 (with freshman Drew Baird) on the doubles list.
