February 13, 2020 | Swimming & Diving
LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA swim and dive team will conclude its 2020 regular this season this weekend with a dual meet against crosstown rival and No. 24-ranked USC. The swim portion of the meet will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, preceded by diving at 11:00 a.m. The competition will conclude with platform diving on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
The Bruins are set to recognize their five seniors before Friday's meet: Maisie Jameson, Lisa Kaunitz, Kenisha Liu, Amy Okada, and Erica Vong. A pre-meet senior ceremony will take place beginning at 11:45 a.m.
Following the USC dual, a number of Bruins will trek south for the USA Swimming President's Day Senior Classic in Coronado, Calif: sophomore Jackie Basham, junior Isabella Barattolo, sophomore Sophia Cavalli, junior Emily Honng, sophomore Emma Smethurst, sophomore Bonnie Schmitz, and senior Erica Vong. That meet will run run from Saturday through Monday.
UCLA is 7-2 overall on the year with a 4-2 mark in Pac-12 action. The Bruins opened the season with wins in seven consecutive dual meets, but are coming off home losses to No. 2 Cal and No. 5 Stanford, the top two finishers at each of the last three NCAA Championships.
USC meanwhile is 4-3, 4-2. The Bruins and Trojans have recorded identical results against the six common conference opponents they've faced, with UCLA going 3-0 in non-conference action and USC suffering a loss to Minnesota in its sole out-of-league dual competition.
The Bruins suffered a 181-117 loss to USC in last year's matchup at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. Then-seniors Eloise Belanger, Sandra Soe, and Emma Schanz all captured individual event wins in that meet, while a Claire Grover-Kenisha Liu-Amy Okada-Maisie Jameson 200 free relay team won that event with a then-season-best time of 1:29.10.
Looking ahead, UCLA will begin postseason competition with the Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Wash. starting on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The conference championships will run until Saturday, Mar. 2 with the Pac-12 Swimming Invitational following on Sunday, Mar. 3.
