Top-Ranked Bruins Fall to No. 3 Texas

LOS ANGELES - Redshirt junior Aaliyah Jordan hit a game-tying, two-run homer in the fifth inning and made an RBI-saving catch in right field in the sixth to highlight the top-ranked Bruins on Thursday, but UCLA dropped a 6-4, eight-inning decision to No. 3 Texas at Easton Stadium.
The Bruins (15-1) had just four hits, as juniors Kinsley Washington and Delanie Wisz and freshman Alyssa Garcia all singled. Sophomore Megan Faraimo (9-1) struck out seven in eight innings, allowing five earned runs, no walks and 10 hits. She fanned the side in the fourth and two in the fifth.
For the 13th time in 16 games, the Bruins scored in the first inning. Washington led off with an infield single, moved to third one out later on a Texas (17-2) error and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of freshman Maya Brady.
The Longhorns netted two in the second, but the Bruins evened things up in the third. With one out, junior Briana Perez walked and moved to second on a two-out walk to Brady. Wisz then singled to the shortstop on the infield-outfield cutout, as Perez never stopped running to bring home UCLA's second run.

Texas once again went ahead with two runs in the fourth, but UCLA knotted things at four on one swing in the fifth. With Perez at first after reaching on a fielder's choice, Jordan launched her second homer of the season to right to make it 4-all.
Jordan's diving catch in the sixth saved a run to keep it a 4-4 game, as the contest eventually went to extras. However, Texas hit back-to-back, solo homers to open the top of the eighth to hand the Bruins their first loss.
She hits home runs. She takes away doubles.

UCLA travels south for the San Diego Classic this weekend. The first contest is on Friday at San Diego State against Mount St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m.
