No. 1 Bruins Garner Mercy-Rule Win Over Mount St. Mary's

SAN DIEGO - Freshman Lexi Sosa struck out five in a three-hit shutout, while freshman Sara Rusconi Vicinanza hit a three-run homer, as the top-ranked Bruins defeated Mount St. Mary's, 10-0 in five innings, on Friday at SDSU Softball Stadium.
Sosa (2-0) walked three and struck out a pair in the fourth, notching a 1-2-3 inning in the second. The Bruins had eight different players record their eight hits.
The Bruins (16-1) scored four times in the bottom of the first. Juniors Kinsley Washington, Briana Perez and Aaliyah Jordan and freshman Maya Brady all walked to bring in the game's first run. Junior Delanie Wisz followed with a double to right to plate Perez and Jordan to make it 3-0. Two batters later, freshman Seneca Curo lifted a sacrifice fly to right-center to score Brady with the Bruins' fourth run.
UCLA added another in the third. With one out, freshman Alyssa Garcia singled up the middle, with sophomore Anna Vines coming in to run. After Curo was hit and sophomore Kelli Godin walked, Washington tapped to short, with the out getting recorded at third, but Vines scoring to make it 5-0.
Adamant to end the game by mercy rule, the Bruins tacked on five more in the fifth. Following walks to Jordan and Wisz, Rusconi Vicinanza powered her second homer of the season over the wall in left to increase the lead to 8-0. With two outs, consecutive singles by Curo, Sosa and junior Alana Snow made it 9-0, while an infield single for Perez plated Godin to get the Bruins to double figures.
UCLA plays twice on Saturday, taking on Weber State at 4:30 p.m. and San Diego State at 7 p.m.
