
Shaheen Makes Platform Finals to Wrap Zones

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. โ Freshman Katie Shaheen reached the finals of the platform championship on Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships to finish off UCLA's time at Zones, hosted at the King County Aquatic Center.
Shaheen, who placed 20th in 3M on Tuesday in her Zones debut, narrowly missed an NCAA-qualifying spot on tower. She was the 12th-place finisher with a final score of 479.55, about 15 points behind the final qualifier โ ninth-place Yulika Tykha (495.90).
The La Canada, Calif. native was the Bruins' lone entry in the platform competition. She was in 11th place following prelims after posting a season-best 236.05, then upped herself with a 243.50 in finals.
After scoring a 37.80 from five meters on the opening dive of her finals list, she went to 10-meter the rest of the way and scored at least 53.20 points on all but one. Her highest score of the day came on a 5152B, netting her a 58.00.
UCLA swim returns to action with the CSCAA National Invitational, starting tomorrow and running from Mar. 12-14. The NCAA Championships will take place from Mar. 18-21 in Athens, Ga. with UCLA entries including Ruby Neave (1M diving, 3M diving), Amy Okada (200 fly), Claire Grover (50 free), and Kenisha Liu (200 free).
