June 30, 2020 | Swimming & Diving
LOS ANGELES โ The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected the UCLA women's swimming and diving team for a Scholar All-America Team award, while eight individuals were honored as Scholar All-Americans. The Bruins registered a 3.51 team GPA during winter quarter and 3.81 mark during spring quarter.ย
Freshman diver Hannah Butler and senior Kenisha Liu headlined the Bruins' individual honorees, earning first team status (3.5 or higher GPA, qualified for NCAA Championships). UCLA had six honorable mentions (3.5 or higher GPA, recorded a "B" Cut) for CSCAA Scholar All-America in freshman Gabby Dang, freshman Daniella Hawkins, sophomore Abriana Howard, senior Maisie Jameson, sophomore Ella Kirschke, and sophomore Delaney Smith.ย
CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart mentioned the efforts of head coach Jordan Wolfrum, noting that "no team was unaffected by this spring's pandemic, but Athletic Director Dan Guerrero and Chancellor Gene Block can and should be proud of their team and the work of Jordan."
In late March, UCLA swim and dive had a dozen student-athletes selected to the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll, making up over half (12-22, 55%) of UCLA's contingent department-wide. Sophomore Bonnie Schmitz was also honored at the UCLA Scholar-Athlete Banquet in June, being named to the All-Academic Team as the student-athlete in the program with the top GPA.
