No. 18 Bruins Fall in Three to No. 10 Washington

LOS ANGELES -ย Junior Zoe Fleck had 15 digs and senior Mac May recorded 10 kills and eight digs, but the 18th-ranked Bruins fell in three to No. 10 Washington on Sunday at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. Set scores were 20-25, 21-25, 13-25.
Redshirt junior Emily Ryan had six kills and just one error in 10 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage to go with three blocks. Junior élan McCall tallied six kills and four digs, freshman Allison Jacobs posted five digs, freshman Audrey Pak had 15 assists and four digs and freshman Kate Lane added 11 assists. The Bruins hit .043 for the match.
The Bruins (5-3) led by as many as two in the opening set at 3-1 and 4-2, but Washington (6-2) responded with an 11-5 run to go up 13-9. UCLA could get no closer than one the rest of the way, falling 25-20. McCall had three kills, Fleck posted five digs and May added four digs. The Bruins were out-hit .200 to .074.
UCLA again held a two-point lead at 5-3 in set two, but seven in a row for the Huskies gave the visitors a five-point advantage. The Bruins could get no closer than three for the remainder of the set, falling 25-21. May had five kills in the second and Ryan was 4-for-5 with no errors. The Bruins were out-hit .225 to .121.
The third set was tied three times after the first sixย points, but Washington got its lead to double figures thanks to a 13-3 run, eventually going on to win the third by a score of 25-13. May was 5-for-9 with no errors in the third, while Fleck had seven digs. The Bruins were out-hit .312 to -.059.
The Bruins return to the court on Friday at Arizona State at 5 p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT.
