No. 15 Bruins Sweep Weekend at Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Mac May recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs to go with three aces, freshman Iman Ndiaye had a season-best 12 kills and hit .529 and freshman Kate Lane also picked up a double-double with 22 assists and 11 digs, as the 15th-ranked Bruins swept Arizona State on Sunday at Desert Financial Arena. Set scores were 27-25, 25-15, 25-21.
Senior Sabrina Smith was 8-for-10 with no errors for an .800 hitting percentage, adding four digs. Junior élan McCall posted 11 digs and nine kills, junior Zoe Fleck had 12 digs and six assists and freshman Allison Jacobs added eight kills. Freshman Audrey Pak tallied 24 assists and three digs and redshirt junior Emily Ryan had three kills and three blocks. The Bruins hit .305 for the match.
The opening set was the closest, as it featured 10 ties and five lead changes. Arizona State (1-9) stormed out to as much as a five-point lead at 16-11 before UCLA rallied back. A 5-1 run on a Smith kill and ace, two May kills and one from Ndiaye cut the deficit to 17-16. The Bruins would even things up at 19 after successive May kills and finally got the lead for good at 22-21 after an ASU attack error. The first went overtime, and on the Bruins' fourth set point, an Ndiaye kill wrapped up a 27-25 victory. May had nine kills in the first, Ndiaye added five, Smith was 3-for-5 with no errors and McCall had three kills to go with seven digs. Fleck added five digs. The Bruins were out-hit .302 to .269.
The Bruins (7-3) led wire-to-wire in set two, scoring the first three points on two Ndiaye kills and one from May. At 12-10, UCLA scored nine of the next 10 points to get its lead to double digits. May served three aces in a row during the run, Jacobs, McCall and Smith had kills and the Sun Devils committed three errors. At 21-11, the teams traded sideouts the rest of the way, as the Bruins won the second by a score of 25-15. Ndiaye, who went 5-for-5 with no errors in the second, clinched the set with a kill. Smith was 3-for-3, May had three kills and four digs and Fleck added four digs. The Bruins out-hit the Sun Devils .379 to .259.
UCLA's largest lead in the third set was five. Down 11-10, back-to-back Ryan kills, one each from McCall and Jacobs and an ASU error put the Bruins up 15-11. UCLA's advantage remained between three and five for the rest of the set, with Jacobs ending the match on a kill to win the third 25-21. Jacobs and May both had five kills in the final set, McCall added four and Lane had six digs. The Bruins out-hit the Sun Devils .297 to .167.
