Mac May has been named to the Academic All-America Second Team, as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) on Monday.
May becomes the sixth Bruin ever to be named an Academic All-America, joining Karsta Lowe (2014, Third Team), Lauren Fendrick (2002, First Team; 2001, Second Team), Elisabeth Bachman (2000, Second Team), Kelly Flannigan (1995, Third Team) and Julie Bremner (1993, First Team; 1992, Third Team).
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. May was named a First Team All-District selection last month.
May, who was named Pac-12 All-Academic for the 2020-2021 and 2018 seasons, earned AVCA Second Team and Volleyball Magazine Third Team All-American honors last season after leading the Bruins with 4.33 kills and 4.98 points per set, ranking second in the Pac-12 in both categories and Top 30 nationally. The First Team AVCA All-Region and All-Pac-12 Conference selection had double figures in kills in 21 of 22 contests, reaching the 20-mark on four occasions. May had four double-doubles and a team-best 30 service aces, ranking fifth in the conference in aces per set. She was also second on the team with 13 block solos.
