November 06, 2022 | Women's Volleyball
LOS ANGELES – élan McCall notched a match-high 16 kills (.297) and made a miraculous diving effort to help score match point in the third set of the UCLA women's volleyball team's sweep victory (25-20, 25-15, 31-29) over Arizona State at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Sunday.
With their current three-match winning streak, the Bruins (13-10, 7-7 Pac-12) are back to .500 in conference play after starting the Pac-12 schedule 0-3. As a team, UCLA hit for 53 kills at 301.
The Bruins had elite kill numbers in each of the three sets, going 17-19-17. UCLA's 19 kills were evenly dished out by setter Matti McKissock with six kills to McCall and four kills apiece to Dodson, Charitie Luper and Iman Ndiaye at a combined .545 hitting percentage.
The Sun Devils (11-15, 5-9 Pac-12) had set point three times in the third set and were on the verge of forcing a fourth. However, UCLA tied the match at 25s, 26s, 27s, 28s and 29s. After a Dodson kill – her 13th of the match – the Bruins took a 30-29 lead. McCall prevented the match from lasting any longer with a diving over attempt that led to an Arizona State attack error and match point, 31-29.
McKissock finished with a match-high 42 assists at a .416 set percentage while Mackenzie Cole tacked on six assists of her own.
Next Up: UCLA is back in Pauley Pavilion next week for its final two home matches of the season versus California on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. and No. 8 Stanford on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
