UCLA Routs CSU Bakersfield 75-47 in Saturday Matinee

December 17, 2022 | Women's Basketball

LOS ANGELES – No. 10 UCLA improves to 11-1 (1-0 Pac-12) after defeating CSU Bakersfield (2-5) on Saturday afternoon. All 10 Bruins who entered the game put points on the board in an all-around effort from the team.

UCLA swiped a season-high 14 steals in the win, and the Bruins have at least seven steals in each of their 11 wins this season. UCLA scored 22 points to Bakersfield's 12 off turnovers in the game, and the Bruins shut out the Roadrunners in transition. UCLA scored 21 fast break points and held CSU Bakersfield to zero in the win.

The Bruins assisted on 21 of their 29 made buckets, tying a season high (21 ast vs. Tennessee, Nov. 20). UCLA held Bakersfield to .362 FG% to mark the 10th time this season in which opponents have shot less than .400 in a game.

Emily Bessoir (12 pts, 8 reb) and Londynn Jones (12 pts, 4-9 FG) led the Bruins in scoring, and Gabriela Jaquez added 11 points off the bench in the win. Gina Conti threw a season-high eight assists against the Roadrunners and Brynn Masikewich added a career-high seven points to the final box score.

The Bruins took advantage of their free throw opportunities in the first quarter, shooting 8-for-9 from the line. UCLA outscored CSU Bakersfield 22-8 in the period.

The Roadrunners came out hot in the second but UCLA put together an 11-0 run after the media timeout to quash Bakersfield's momentum.

UCLA had a strong third quarter, as it is known to do. The Bruins have outscored opponents 228-163 in the third quarter of matchups through the first twelve games, and Saturday's matchup was no different. Bessoir was the first Bruin in double digits after hitting a three pointer from the top of the arc with just under two minutes to play.

The Bruins entered the fourth quarter with a 27-point lead. UCLA shot a blazing 9-for-13 in the final period of play to seal the victory.

UP NEXT: vs. Fresno State (Dec. 20)

UCLA hosts Fresno State on Tuesday, Dec. 20, inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. The Bruins and the Bulldogs are set to tip off at 7 p.m. for the 11th all-time meeting between the teams. Tuesday night's game will be the Bruins' Holiday Game, and the first 750 fans in attendance will receive a UCLA ugly sweater holiday ornament. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Los Angeles with Anne Marie Anderson and Maylana Martin Douglas on the call.
