Canales, Nobilio Place T-5th in UCLA's Runner-Up Finish at The Gold Rush

SEAL BEACH, Calif. – Freshmen Alessia Nobilio and Caroline Canales led the No. 14 UCLA women's golf team with two top-5 finishes at The Gold Rush held at Old Ranch Country Club on Tuesday. As a team, the Bruins placed second at 35-over, 899 after shooting a 7-over, 295 on day three.
Nobilio and Canales ended the tournament at 5-over, 221 for their third and second top-10 finishes of the season, respectively.
Ahead of the Bruins was No. 10 USC who won the tournament for the second straight year at 1-under, 863 by 36 strokes. Two Trojans took the top two places on the individual leader board as Amari Avery took home the individual crown at 5-under, 211.
Nobilio shot a 1-over, 73 on day three with pars on 15 of 18 her holes while knocking down one birdie on the par-5 16th. Canales matched with another 1-over, 73 with two birdies on the par-4 17th and 18th holes.
Redshirt sophomore Ty Akabane recorded her third top-20 placing of the season after tying for 13th at 10-over, 226. Akabane scored a 2-over, 74 in her final round with a bogey-free 3-under, 33 on the back nine.
Freshman Zoe Antoinette Campos was UCLA's fourth counting score in round three with a 3-over, 75, featuring three birdies. Senior Yuki Yoshihara tied for 30th at 17-over, 233 following a 5-over, 77 today.
Junior Emilie Paltrinieri, who competed individually, placed in the top 20 at 13-over, 229.
The Bruins' next competition is in three weeks at the Ping/ASU Invitational on Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz., running from March 25 through March 27.
