UCLA Scores 197.850 to Win Session 1 of Wasatch Classic

No. 6 UCLA scored 49.500 or higher on its first three events en route to a first-place 197.850 score in Session 1 of the Wasatch Classic. The Bruins' score was their highest road score since 2019. No. 25 Washington placed second with a 196.550, No. 19 Minnesota was third with a 196.325, and Boise State was fourth with a 195.050.
Sophomore Jordan Chiles and freshman Selena Harris tied for first in the all-around with scores of 39.725, leading a UCLA sweep of the individual events. Chiles won vault with a career-high-tying 9.925. Harris won uneven bars with a near-perfect 9.975. The duo tied for first on balance beam with a 9.925, career-best marks for each, and junior Chae Campbell won floor exercise with a 9.950, her fourth consecutive 9.950 on the event. The Bruins earned 13 scores of 9.900 or higher, including four each by Chiles and Harris.
UCLA began the meet with a 49.500 on uneven bars, with the back three all scoring 9.900 or higher. Harris hit a 9.975, Chiles scored 9.950, and Margzetta Frazier closed with a 9.900. Freshman Maddie Anyimi continued the success, scoring 9.850 in an exhibition routine.
Balance beam was strong from start to finish, with UCLA scoring another 49.500. Sophomore Emily Lee led off with a 9.800, followed by a 9.850 from freshman Ciena Alipio. Campbell kicked off four consecutive 9.9+ routines with a 9.900, and Chiles and Harris hit back-to-back 9.925s before Emma Malabuyo finished with a 9.900. Frazier also hit a strong exhibition routine with a 9.800.
With UCLA at 99.000 at the halfway mark, the Bruins reeled off a 49.600 on floor exercise, with Katie McNamara leading off with a 9.775 and Malabuyo scoring 9.875. Harris, Frazier and Chiles earned consecutive 9.925s before Campbell anchored with a 9.950. The highlight of the rotation, however, was senior Chloe Lashbrooke's return in an exhibition routine that scored 9.875.
UCLA finished up on vault with a 49.250, led by Campbell's 9.875, Harris' 9.9 and Chiles' 9.925.
The Bruins will next compete at Washington on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2pm in a meet televised by Pac-12 Network.
