Butler, Jespersgaard Lead UCLA at Bruin Diving Invite

LOS ANGELES โ Senior Hannah Butler and sophomore Zoe Jespersgaard both recorded top-five individual finishes to lead UCLA at the 2023 Bruin Diving Invitational, which ran from Friday through Sunday at Spieker Aquatics Center.
Butler placed fourth in the 3-meter championship on Friday, and Jespersgaard wrapped up the invite with a fifth-place result in 1-meter on Sunday.
Overall, UCLA placed fourth in Friday's team event, with the trio of butler, sophomore Maya Salvitti, and freshmen Eden Cheng combining for a score of 276.15. USC (326.70) won the team event.
Butler was the Bruins' lone entry in Friday's 3M competition, coasting into the finals after notching a score of 289.85 in prelims. She one-upped herself in the finals session, earning a season-best score of 314.85 to jump one spot and finish fourth with a combined score of 604.70.
The Bruins had two entries in Saturday's platform competition, which was conducted under rainy conditions. Cheng (212.70) was UCLA's top finisher on tower, taking 14th place. Salvitti (210.25, 18th) wasn't far behind.
UCLA had three divers reach Sunday's 1M finals, led by Jespersgaard's fifth-place finish (561.95). Butler (551.25) jumped three spots from prelims to finals, taking ninth, and Cheng (527.85) came in 14th.
Individual women's champions included USC's Carolina Sculti (1M, 3M) and Nike Agunbiade (platform). The men's champions were USC's Shangfei Wang (1M) and Laurent Gosselin-Paradis (3M, platform).
The UCLA swim and dive team is next in action in two weeks, traveling north for dual meets at Pac-12 rivals Stanford (Jan. 27) and California (Jan. 28).
