LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Meghan Royal on the No. 9 UCLA women's golf team was named Pac-12 Women's Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
This marks Royal's first Pac-12 weekly honor. She was named SEC Freshman of the Week last season as a member of the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Royal posted a career-best, runner-up finish at 9-under 207 (66-73-68) to lead the Bruins to victory at the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Oct. 3. As a team, UCLA tied its 54-hole program record with a 32-under 832 in the victory which was the first in Alicia Um Holmes' career as head coach. The Bruins won by nine strokes. Royal's performance came on the heels of her first top 20 placement at the Mason Rudolph Championship
In round one of the Windy City Classic, Royal shot a career low, bogey-free 6-under 66. Royal, the Bruins' last golfer standing in the final round, recorded three birdies on her final four holes to clinch the team record and victory.
Royal, a sophomore transfer from Arkansas, has been UCLA's top finisher in each of its first two tournaments of the season. She paces the Bruins with a 70.0 scoring average and four rounds in the 60s. Royal's three lowest round scores of her collegiate career have come in her first two tournaments as a Bruin.
