STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 7 UCLA women's golf team shot 6-over 290 on day two of the Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course Saturday, falling into third place.
The Bruins are 4-under for the tournament and trail first-place No. 11 USC and Virginia by one stroke heading into tomorrow's finale. Junior Zoe Antoinette Campos signed off on a 1-over 72 on day two and is in a tie for second at 5-under through two rounds. She is one stroke behind Northwestern's Lauryn Nguyen (-6).
"There were tougher conditions in the afternoon, but our girls hung in there are fought until the end," said head coach Alicia Um Holmes. "It was great to have a few birdies drop on the final hole to keep the team only one back. We are looking forward to tomorrow's final day playing alongside some great teams. It's going to be fun!"
Campos shot par on every hole on the front nine. She bogeyed holes 10 and 18 and birdied par-5 12th.
Le matched Campos with a 1-over 72 of her own. The two scores were UCLA's lowest of the day. Le is still situated in the top 20 at 2-under.
Meghan Royal and Kate Villegas were the Bruins' final two counting scores in round two, each shooting 2-over 73. Royal had a nice bounce back with an eagle on the par-5 7th to answer a double bogey on the previous hole. She birdied the 18th to help salvage her round.
Only four teams are under par through 36 holes: USC, Virginia UCLA and course host No. 1 Stanford at 3-under. No. 22 Northwestern is even par.
The Bruins tee off for the final round tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. (PT). Follow along this live scoring link.
