Swimming and Diving Wrap Up Day One at Art Adamson Invite

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA swimming and diving team had three individuals and two relay team place amongst the top three in their respective events on day one of the Art Adamson Invitational.
The Bruins had 18 qualifiers for finals on the first evening of competition. To begin the evening session the Bruins placed their 'A' relay team on the podium in the 200 free relay. The combination of Brooke Schaffer, Ana Jih-Schiff, Sarah Bennetts, and Maddie Wright finished in 1:29.81 just behind LSU and Texas A&M in the event.

Ashley Kolessar followed the relay with a strong showing in the 500 free final. The sophomore finished fourth in the discipline in 4:46.58.

The 200 IM was next, and the Bruins dominated the event. UCLA swept the podium in the event after Paige MacEachern won the event in 1:57.20, and was followed by Rosie Murphy in 1:57.93, while Ana Jih-Schiff continued her strong day with a third place showing in 1:58.89.

In the 50 free, 10 Bruins made finals in the event, with Schaffer leading the Bruins in the 'A' final. Schaffer finished seventh in the final in a time of 22.89. Wright also had a strong showing finishing ninth overall and first in the 'B' final, also in 22.89.

To end the night-cap UCLA finished second in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Fay Lustria, Sarah Bennetts, Aislinn Walsh and Brooke Schaffer helped the Bruins earn their second relay podium of the evening to end the night with a time of 3:35.44.

Earlier in the day, the Bruins had 18 qualifiers for finals in their respective events on Wednesday morning. To begin the day UCLA had three athletes qualify for finals in the 400m free. MacEachern placed fifth to advance to the 'A' final, while Kolessar finished ninth to qualify for the 'B' final and Wilson finished 23rd to advance to the 'C' final.
The Bruins had another strong showing in in the preliminary heats of the 200m IM. Five Bruins qualified for the finals, including MacEachern, Murphy and Jih-Schiff who placed first, fourth and fifth respectively and earned spots in the 'A; final. Herbert and Chang rounded out the five Bruins who made finals in the event, finishing 18th and 24th to qualify for the 'C' final.

To cap off the morning session the Bruins had 10 athletes qualify for finals in the 50 free. Brooke Schaffer qualified for the 'A' final. Wright, Cash and Walsh qualified for the 'B' final, Bennetts and Wilson earned a spot in the 'C' final, while Guvenc, Carlson, Murphy and Pacher qualified for the 'D' final.
