MacEachern Breaks 400 IM School Record at Art Adamson Invite

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The No. 23 UCLA swimming and diving team had three individuals and two relay teams place amongst the top three in their respective events on day two of the Art Adamson Invitational. Paige MacEachern also set a new school record in the 400 IM on Thursday evening to lead the Bruins.

In the second event of the final's session, Paige MacEachern threw down a monster time in the 400 IM. The junior beat the field by over a second as she took first place in the event in 4:06.15 That time was good for a new school record and a personal best for MacEachern. Rosie Murphy also took third in the discipline finishing in 4:10.67 for the Bruins.

To begin the evening session the Bruins placed their 'A' relay team on the podium in the 200 medley relay. The combination of Fay Lustria, Joanie Cash, Sarah Bennetts, and Brooke Schaffer finished in second in 1:37.96 just behind first place finisher Texas A&M in the event.

In the third event of the evening, Aislinn Walsh earned the second spot on the podium for the Bruins in the 100 butterfly. The graduate student finished in 52.82 seconds to claim second place in the event.ย

As for the final event of the evening, the Bruins finished the day with their second relay podium and fourth of the meet. The team of MacEachern,ย Gizem Guvenc, Maya Wilson and Brooke Schaffer finished third in the 800 free relay in 7:09.92.

Earlier in the day, the Bruins had 25 qualifiers for finals in their respective events on Thursday morning, including a session-high seven qualifiers in the 100m butterfly.

To begin the day UCLA had three athletes qualify for finals in the 400m IM. MacEachern, Rosie Murphy and Kolessar all placed in the top four in prelims to advance to the 'A' final. MacEachern topped the charts in 4:50.93 while Murphy finished in 4:51.20, while Kolessar finished fourth in 4:57.38.

The Bruins had another strong showing in in the preliminary heats of the 100 fly. A session-high seven Bruins qualified for the finals, including Walsh, and Cash for the 'A' final after they placed third and seventh respectively. Angela Quan, Murphy, and Zhang all qualified for the 'B' final. Quan finished prelims in ninth, while Murphy and Zhang finished tied for 13th.

Two Bruins qualified for the 'A' final in the 200 free. Brooke Schaffer and Guvenc finished sixth and seventh to make the 'A' final, while four other Bruins qualified for the B through D finals.

To cap off the morning session the Bruins had four athletes qualify for finals in the 100 backstroke. Chang qualified for the 'B' final, Rosie Murphy the 'C' final, and Quan and Lustria qualified for the 'D' final.
