No. 23 Swim and Dive Finish Second at Art Adamson Invitational

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The No. 23 UCLA swimming and diving team had three individuals and the 400m free relay team place amongst the top three in their respective events on the final day of the Art Adamson Invitational.

The Bruins wrapped up the three days of competition with a school record in the 400 IM by Paige MacEachern, nine individual podiums, as well as five relay teams finished in the top three.

As a team, UCLA finished second overall in a field that included Houston, LSU, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Washington State and Utah.

The Bruins dominated the 200 breaststroke, with four athletes placing in the top 10. Ana Jih-Schiff led the way in the event, finishing second in 2:12.38. Eva Carlson and Bailey Herbert finished fifth and eighth in the 'A' final, while Sarah Bennetts won the 'B' final in the discipline on Friday evening in 2:12.33 to finish ninth overall.

To begin the evening session Rosie Murphy added another podium to her tally, taking third in the 200 backstroke. The sophomore from Sacramento, California finished in 1:55.78 to take third in the event.

In the 100 freestyle, the Bruins had three athletes competing in the 'A' final. Brooke Schaffer led the trio with a third place finish in 48.93 to earn another podium for herself.

As for the 200 fly, the Bruins had Paige MacEachern finish fifth in the discipline in the 'A' final in 1:57.08.

To conclude the meet, the Bruins 400 free relay 'A' team earned an NCAA B cut time when they finished in 3:16.01. The team of Gizem Guvenc, Maya Wilson, Brooke Schaffer, and Sarah Bennetts finished third in the event, claiming UCLA's fifth relay team podium.

Earlier in the day, the Bruins had 21 qualifiers for finals in their respective events on Friday morning, including a session-high nine qualifiers in the 100m freestyle.

To begin the morning session sophomore Rosie Murphy qualified for the 'A' final in the 200m backstroke. She finished in 2:16.37 to finish 5th and advance to the 'A' final. Junior Mia Chang also qualified for the 'B' final in the discipline when she finished 15th in prelims in 2:20.62.

UCLA had nine three athletes qualify for finals in the 100m freestyle. Guvenc led the pack with a third place finish in 56.51, followed closely by Brooke Schaffer in fourth in 56.55, while Maya Wilson was the third Bruin to qualify for the 'A' final when she finished sixth in prelims in 56.62. Maddie Wright, Morgan Hawes, Schere, Pacher, Cash and Lachey also qualified for the B-C-D finals.

The Bruins put another three into the 200 breast 'A' final on Friday morning. Ana Jih-Schiff, Bailey Herbert and Eva Carlson finished fourth, fifth and seventh in the prelims to advance to the 'A' final in the discipline. Freshman Sarah Bennetts finished 15th in prelims to qualify for the 'B' final while Morganne Malloy and Emma Matous finished 18th and 21st to earn spots in the 'C' final.

To close out the morning session UCLA had six student-athletes qualify for finals in the 200m butterfly. Paige MacEachern, fresh off her 400 IM school record time on Thursday evening, led the Bruins with a fourth place showing in 2:14.50 to qualify for the 'A' final. Aislinn Walsh and Ashley Kolessar both qualified for the 'B' final, while Fay Lustria earned a spot in the 'C' final. Katy Pacher and Angela Quan both qualified for the 'D' final for the Bruins.
