No. 23 Swim and Dive Fall at No. 21 ASU, 175-125

Tempe, Ariz. – The No. 23 UCLA swim and dive team fell to No. 21 Arizona State on Friday afternoon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Bruins (3-1) earned wins in five events against the Sun Devils (2-3) on Friday.
Gizem Guvenc kicked off her afternoon in strong fashion in the third event of the day. She broke 1:50 in the 200-yard free for the third meet in a row, and came in third in the event in 1.47.70.
In the fourth event of the day, the 100m back Amy Zhang placed second with a time of 54.47.
The Bruins earned their first podium sweep of the day in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sarah Bennetts topped the charts with a 1:00.09 effort in the event, and she was quickly followed by Ana Jih-Schiff and Eva Carlson who both finished in 1:00.84.
Brooke Schaffer and Madeleine Wright placed second and third respectively in the 50-yard free for the Bruins. Schaffer finished in 22.74 while Wright came in just behind her at 23.02. Schaffer's time is the fastest by a Bruin in the event this season.
In the 200-yd butterfly Ashley Kolessar placed third in the event, with a time of 1:59.40.
In the first dive event of the day the Bruins swept the podium in the 3-meter diving competition. Lauren Hallaselka topped the charts with a score of 321.08, Savana Trueb then placed second with a score of 292.50, while Zoe Jespersgaard finished third in the event in 289.80.
Rosie Murphy won UCLA's third event of the day later on in the meet, when she won the 200-yard backstroke. The sophomore from Sacramento, Calif. Earned the win with a time of 1:56.19, her best time of the season.
Later on in the dual meet, Aislinn Walsh placed third in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 54.14. A few minutes later Paige Maceachern also took home a third-place finish in the 200-yard IM. The junior finished in 1:59.94.
The Bruins finished strongly in the 1-meter dive as well, sweeping the podium again. Hallaselka earned her second win of the afternoon with a score of 301.73, while Jespersgaard and Trueb placed second and third with scores of 266.03 and 237.30 respectively.
Two Bruins earned spots on the podium in the 200-yard breaststroke. Ana Jih-Schiff and Bennetts went 1-2 in the discipline, finishing in 2:10.45 and 2:12.41. The 1-2 was the duo's second podium each on the day.
Maceachern followed that up with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in second with a time of 4:47.02. The result was her second top three showing of the afternoon.
UCLA returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Arizona to take on the Wildcats noon PT in Tucson, Arizona.
