March 01, 2023 | Swimming & Diving

LOS ANGELES โ€“ Five UCLA swimmers were selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday as the NCAA announced the qualifiers for this year's meet.

UCLA's invited swimmers include sophomore Eva Carlson, senior Gabby Dang, fifth-year Claire Grover, sophomore Paige MacEachern, and senior Rachel Rhee.

The Bruins' five NCAA swimming selections are the most for the program under fourth-year head coach Jordan Wolfrum.

The championships, hosted by Tennessee, will be held Mar. 15-18 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

Selected divers will be announced on Sunday, Mar. 12.

Carlson is a first-time NCAA qualifier. She is set to compete in the 100 breast after recording a best time (59.61) in that event during the USC dual meet on Feb. 10. She enters as the No. 35 seed.

Dang is making her third consecutive appearance at the national meet. This year, she is set to be the No. 26 seed in the 100 fly after posting a time of 51.85 at the Pac-12 Championships.

A mainstay at NCAAs during her time at UCLA, Grover is set to make her fourth-career appearance (exempting 2020, in which nationals were canceled due to COVID-19). She double-qualified for NCAAs this year, as she is set to be the No. 25 seed in the 100 breast (59.37) and No. 29 seed in the 50 free (22.02). Grover is coming off a 13th place finish in the 50 free last year, making her the first Bruin swimmer to score at NCAAs since 2018.

MacEachern qualified for the 400 IM (4:06.17) for the second straight year, and enters the meet with the No. 11 time in the country in that event this season.

Rhee had a breakout senior season for the Bruins, triple-qualifying for NCAAs in the 50 free (22.06, No. 33 seed), 100 free (48.00, No. 21) and 200 free (1:45.31, No. 39. This marks her first-career trip to NCAAs.
