LOS ANGELES – Six members of the UCLA swimming and diving team have received All-America honors, it was announced by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Sunday.
The Bruins' honorees include freshman Katrina Bellio, freshman Eden Cheng, sophomore Gizem Guvenc, sophomore Paige MacEachern, senior Rachel Rhee, and senior Brooke Schaffer.
Cheng (platform diving) and MacEachern (400 individual medley) earned individual honors, while the other four were part of the Bruins' 15th-place 800 free relay squad at the 2023 NCAA Championships. All of the Bruin honorees received Second Team All-America honors.
UCLA's six All-Americans are the most for the program since 2017. In addition, the five All-American swimmers are the Bruins' most since 2015.
Each of the Bruins' All-America recipients finished 15th in their respective events. UCLA's 800 free relay posted a time of 7:04.66 at NCAAs, topping the team's previous season-best by over two-and-a-half seconds.
The awards were determined by a nationwide vote of CSCAA-member Division I head swimming coaches and head diving coaches. All-Americans are selected on the basis of their finish at the NCAA Championships and a team's current membership with the CSCAA. Only student-athletes who competed in their championship finals are eligible for All-America Honors. NCAA relays & individuals must score in the top 8 to earn first-team honors while those who finish ninth through sixteenth earn second-team honors.
