No. 3 Bruins Continue Pac-12 Play at Oregon

LOS ANGELES โ The No. 3 UCLA softball team goes for its third series win to open the Pac-12 schedule this weekend, taking on No. 19 Oregon for three games at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene, Ore. The Bruins (27-3, 4-2) and Ducks (19-8, 2-4) open play on Friday, March 24, at 6 p.m. (PT). Game times for Saturday and Sunday are set for 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Each contest can be watched on the Pac-12 Network.

Last Time Out
After dropping game one to Washington, UCLA rode the arm of Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week Megan Faraimo to back-to-back top-10 wins to take the series.
Game 1 (L, 4-3): Freshman Jordan Woolery went 3-for-4 with a double in the loss. A three-run sixth inning for the Huskies capped by a Baylee Klingler home run gave Washington the lead for the remainder of the game.
Game 2 (W, 4-0): Faraimo hurled a two-hit shutout โ her fifth of the year โ to even the series. Woolery put UCLA on the board in the first inning, recording UCLA's fourth consecutive hit to open the game with a 2-RBI single. Woolery later homered in the third to score each of the Bruins' first three runs of the game.
Game 3 (W, 10-2): Maya Brady went 3-for-4 with three RBI and recorded her third multi-homer game of the season. Anna Vines and Kelli Godin at the bottom of UCLA's lineup went a combined 6-for-6 and reached base in all seven plate appearances. Godin's final hit of the day was a mercy-rule walk-off single to left field.

Faraimo Named National, Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week
Redshirt senior Megan Faraimo was named the NFCA National Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Bruins to both of their wins over No. 10 Washington last weekend. This marks the second time in Faraimo's career she has received the major weekly award (first: Feb. 18, 2020). The Oceanside, Calif. native totaled 10 strikeouts and 13.0 innings of shutout ball across her three appearances. This is UCLA's second NFCA weekly award of 2023. Maya Brady was named the NFCA National Player of the Week on Feb. 24.

Faraimo was dominant in her game two start, allowing just three baserunners in her two-hit shutout of the Huskies on March 18. In game three, Faraimo was called upon in relief in the second inning and kept Washington off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. After surrendering a triple to the very first batter she faced, Faraimo did not allow another runner to reach scoring position for the rest of her outing.

Faraimo now leads the Pac-12 with 13 wins and 121 strikeouts this season. Her team-leading 1.36 earned run average ranks fourth in the conference.

Maya Brady broke a 24-year-old record during UCLA's Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. Brady recorded 11 consecutive base hits across four games, breaking the mark of 10 consecutive hits formerly held by UCLA legends Lisa Fernandez (March 1993) and Stacey Nuveman (Feb. 1999). In total, Brady opened the first week of 2023 going 13-for-16 with 13 RBI and four home runs to earn her NFCA Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.

Redshirt senior Kelli Godin, a former Pac-12 Batting Champion as a freshman in 2019, ranks third on the team with a .389 batting average and is coming off her best performance of the season. In game three against Washington, Godin went 3-for-3 at the bottom of the Bruins' lineup and knocked in the game-winning RBI to mercy-rule walk-off the Huskies.

Maya Brady leads UCLA in both slugging (.933) and is tied for the lead in stolen bases (5). The last time a Bruin led the team in both slugging percentage and stolen bases in a single season was Katie Schroeder in 2009 (.684 SLG / 19 SB).

Megan Grant leads all freshmen in the country with 34 runs batted in this season after her two-homer weekend against Washington. The 34 RBI also rank third in the conference. She leads UCLA with 10 multi-RBI games this season. The prized 2022 recruit has hit third our fourth in the UCLA batting lineup in 29 of 30 games this season.

Freshman Slugging Duo
Joining Grant at the top of the lineup is fellow freshman slugger Jordan Woolery who is hitting for a .386 average in 2023. The Walnut Creek, Calif. native is the Bruins' everyday first baseman and ranks third on the team with 26 runs batted in. Woolery made a statement earlier this season, hitting her first career home run off Alabama's prized ace Montana Fouts for a grand slam on Feb. 17.
Grant and Woolery homered in the third inning of game two versus Washington on March 18 (W, 4-0). The duo was responsible for driving in all of UCLA's four runs that game.

Maya Brady is now the Bruins' everyday shortstop due to a left shoulder injury sustained by utility Seneca Curo. Brady grew up playing the position with her travel ball team OC Batbusters Stith.
