No. 2 Bruins Combine for 32 Hits in Wins Over Cal Poly, Michigan

FULLERTON, Calif. – The No. 2 UCLA softball team racked up 32 hits across its two mercy-rule victories over Cal Poly and Michigan on Saturday at the Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field. The Bruins (21-1) defeated the Mustangs, 16-0, and Wolverines, 8-0.
Game 1: UCLA 16, Cal Poly 0 (5 inn.)
Six separate Bruins recorded multi-hit games in game one, led by designated player Sharlize Palacios who recorded the fifth grand slam of her career and her first in a Bruin uniform. Palacios finished the game 3-for-4. Kelli Godin joined Palacios with three hits of her own.
Maya Brady went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI doubles and three runs scored. She is now batting .507 through the first 22 games of the season. Sixteen of her 34 hits have come for extra bases.
After UCLA's 11-run second inning came to a close, Rachel Cid, Alexis Ramirez and Alyssa Garcia each tacked on another run with an RBI base hit in the third.
In the circle, freshman Taylor Tinsley earned the victory allowing three hits and striking out one batter.
UCLA totaled 17 hits in the game, including five doubles and a home run.
Game 2: UCLA 8, Michigan 0 (5 inn.)
Megan Grant led the offensive charge in game two in her best game yet as a Bruin. Grant went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and two singles and three RBI. Grant put UCLA on the board in the first inning with a base hit to right field.
Fellow freshman Kennedy Powell followed her with an RBI base hit of her own.
Grant's solo home run to opposite field (left field) came in the third inning. She ranks second on the team and leads all freshmen in the country with 25 RBI.
Palacios picked up the second of her three RBI base hits to continue the scoring in the fourth inning with a knock to left field, bringing home Brady. The next at-bat, Grant doubled in Palacios who scored from first base.
In the fifth inning, Rachel Cid recorded her first home run as a Bruin with a rocket out to left field on the second pitch of her at-bat.
Megan Faraimo twirled a complete-game shutout to pick up her 11th win of the season. She allowed just one hit and struck out four.
UCLA takes on Cal State Fullerton in the Judi Garman Classic finale on Sunday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m. (PT). The contest can be streamed on ESPN+.
