Jordan Announces Return Home with Go-Ahead Blast in 2-1 Win Over Stanford
April 01, 2023 | Softball
LOS ANGELES – Aaliyah Jordan's go-ahead, two-run home run in the second inning lifted the No. 3 UCLA softball team to a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Stanford at Easton Stadium on Saturday night.
It was Jordan's first homer of the year and first time leaving the yard since her final game of the 2022 season on Feb. 19. By virtue of the win, the Bruins (31-4, 8-3) clinch the series win over the Cardinal (28-5, 5-3).
In the circle, redshirt senior Megan Faraimo put forth 3.2 innings of shutout ball in relief to pick up her Pac-12-leading 17th win of the season.
Faraimo worked out of two jams in the fourth and fifth innings before retiring the last six batters she faced to end the game. In the fifth, Faraimo stranded runners on the corners when she induced a groundout to shortstop Maya Brady who was playing deep in the hole. Brady fired a strike to Woolery at first base to get the out.
With Faraimo's 10.2 innings of scoreless work so far this series, she has lowered her earned run average to 1.22, good for second best in the conference. She continues to lead the Pac-12 in strikeouts with 153 after recording two more K's tonight.
Lauren Shaw allowed one hit in her 1.1 innings of relief as well. Regan Krause earned the loss for the Cardinal. Krause walked five batters and allowed six hits.
Stanford got on the board first with a solo home run in the second inning by Emily Young off Bruins' starting pitcher Brooke Yanez.
The only other inning UCLA threatened to score was in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Megan Grant recorded a double for her eighth of the year. Palacios' second walk of the game and a line drive back to the pitcher by Jordan loaded the bases for Lauryn Carter who was sent down on strikes.
Also recording base hits for the Bruins were Palacios, Anna Vines and Janelle Meoño.
UCLA goes for the series sweep against Stanford tomorrow afternoon at Easton Stadium at 2 p.m. (PT). The game will be televised on ESPNU with Courtney Lyle and Danielle Lawrie on the call.
