FULLERTON, Calif. – The UCLA men's soccer team absorbed a 4-1 loss to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday night at Titan Stadium.
Senior forward Andre Ochoa had the Bruins' goal on the night, his first tally of the season. UCLA (2-2-1) was making its first appearance at Cal State Fullerton (4-2-2) since 2010.
An early flurry of goal-scoring saw the Bruins go down 2-1 after 20 minutes, with Ochoa equalizing in the 18th minute before CSF's Marci Killeen netted the eventual game-winner just over two minutes later on a bicycle kick.
UCLA maintained the majority of possession in the second half while searching for another equalizer, but Cal State Fullerton pushed the lead to two after earning a penalty in the second half on a challenge at the top edge of the box.
Fullerton opened the scoring in the second minute on a strike from Matthias Heiland, who was able to shoot into a semi-open net after a cross from the right wing drew a diving deflection attempt from UCLA keeper Sam Joseph. The hosts added a late score from Roberto Ordonez in the 85th minute – he also scored the PK, giving him a brace on the night – to cap the scoring.
The Bruins ended the night getting edged in shots, 14-13.
UCLA returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 23, facing UC Irvine at 6:00 p.m. in the team's final game before the start of Pac-12 Conference play. That contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
