Men's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision to No. 19 Texas A&M

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 19 Texas A&M Wednesday afternoon in its season opener at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Gianluca Ballotta, Govind Nanda and Giacomo Revelli registered singles wins for the Bruins (0-1). Tiago Pires clinched the result for the visitors, supporting efforts by Giulio Perego, JC Roddick and their doubles unit. The Aggies (1-0) secured their win at 4-1.
The top-court combination of Giulio Perego and Togan Tokac defeated Revelli and Timothy Li to give Texas A&M the upper hand in doubles play. With the Court 3 match on serve, the Aggies came out on top of the back-and-forth remaining contest. Nanda and Alexander Hoogmartens dropped the first three games, with one break of serve, before taking the subsequent three. Roddick and Luke Casper seized the final three and initial point of the match.
Revelli made a statement to begin singles play, topping Tokac by a 6-2, 6-3 score on Court 3. The victory was the first of the season for Revelli, who led UCLA with 15 in 2023. The Bruins posted three first-set wins.
Perego responded on behalf of the Aggies on Court 4, dispatching of Tripathi 6-4, 6-4. No. 109 Roddick overcame Hoogmartens in a first-set tiebreaker and propelled himself to a 7-6(4), 6-1 win on Court 2. Moments later, Pires beat Johnson 6-4, 6-3 on Court 5 for the decider.
The day's marquee matchup went the way of Nanda, who outlasted Perot 7-5, 6-3 up top. Counting competition at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup, Nanda has won three of his four singles matches since rejoining the roster for 2024.
No. 121 Ballotta and No. 93 Casper split sets on Court 6. A 10-point tiebreaker went the way of Ballotta. The 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(8) victory improved his record against nationally-ranked opponents in 2023-24 to 2-0.
UCLA returns to action Saturday, Jan. 27, when it visits No. 11 Harvard for ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Bruins play the Crimson inside Beren Tennis Center at 11 a.m. PT. Northwestern and Ole Miss are also in the region.
