Men's Tennis Falls 4-2 at No. 15 Harvard

BOSTON โ The UCLA men's tennis team was overcome by host and 15th-ranked Harvard in a 4-2 decision Saturday at Murr Center. The back-and-forth match came in the ITA Kickoff Weekend opening round.
Spencer Johnson earned two victories for the Bruins (0-2), who claimed the doubles point. The Crimson (3-1) answered, however, picking up the day's final two wins for the difference. Melchior Dellaye posted the clinching result in three sets on Court 5.
The Bruins took hold of the doubles point thanks to early breaks of serve across all three courts. Alexander Hoogmartens and Govind Nanda jumped out to a 4-0 advantage on Court 3 and holds the rest of the way earned them a 6-2 decision over Henry von der Schulenberg and Alan Yim. On the second court, Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels picked up the only break they needed for 3-1 and used that en route to a 6-3 clinching victory against Ronan Jachuck and Masato Perera.
Daniel Milavsky pulled Harvard level on the third singles court, getting past Hoogmartens by a 6-3, 6-4 score. A near-simultaneous 7-5, 6-2 win by von der Schulenberg opposite Giacomo Revelli on Court 2 gave the Crimson its first lead of the day.
Johnson held off Jachuck on Court 4 for his first career dual-match singles win. The 7-6(2), 6-4 result tied the overall score.
A tightly-contested match on Court 1 needed two tiebreakers. The 15th-ranked Cooper Williams of Harvard got the best of Nanda in both of them, though, putting the Crimson a win away from the overall victory with his 7-6(2), 7-6(7) showing.
In his dual-match debut for UCLA, Jorge Plans Gonzalez forced a third set versus Delloye on Court 5. Delloye sealed the decision 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2. The Court 6 matchup was also in a third set when the score was made final.
The Bruins meet Ole Miss in Sunday's consolation match, with first serve from Murr Center scheduled for 7 a.m. PT.
