No. 5 UCLA Defeats No. 3 Colorado, 76-68

January 19, 2024 | Women's Basketball

BOULDER, Colo. — No. 5 UCLA Women's Basketball triumphed over No. 3 Colorado in front of a record-breaking, sold out crowd on Friday evening inside CU Events Center.

Charisma Osborne led the pack with 22 points, helping UCLA (15-1, 4-1 Pac-12) to its eight-point win over Colorado (15-2, 5-1 Pac-12).  The Bruins leave Boulder handing the Buffs their first conference loss of the season. Friday's win matches the highest-ranked win in program history; UCLA took down then-No. 3 Baylor 82-68 at home on Nov. 18, 2017.

Angela Dugalić and Lauren Betts led the field in rebounds. Both players earned double-doubles with Betts totaling 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Dugalić totaling 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Jaylyn Sherrod and Frida Foreman led the Buffs in points tallying 17 and 16, respectively.  Foremann shot 5-for-5 at the free throw line and nine points from behind the arc.

Graduate Student Osborne accumulated seven points within the first quarter, including back-to-back layups, bringing the Bruins to a one-point deficit until the final 30 seconds. The first period ended with UCLA trailing by four.

Foremann proved UCLA's greatest threat in the first half.  Foremann contributed 10 points, helping the Buff's lead by nine in the middle of the second quarter.  Betts contributed four points to UCLA's comeback, ultimately with Osborne closing out the first half with an additional two points, making it a three-point game, 32-35.

The field opened up in the third quarter, with the Bruins accumulation 15 points while keeping the Buffs to 13. Betts book-ended the third quarter, contributing the first and final layup of the period. The Bruins led 49-48 heading into the fourth.

Guard Kiki Rice battled the Buffs for the lead in the middle of fourth quarter, ultimately giving her team a three-point lead with five-consecutive points. Rice's three-point shot opened up the game for UCLA with its players increasing the lead to six with two minutes left. Rice ended the quarter with eight points, cushioning the Bruins for a win.

Colorado forward Quay Miller fouled out with a minute remaining in the second half.  This killed the Buffs momentum, allowing UCLA to extend its victory to an eight-point lead.

Up Next: at No. 20 Utah (Jan. 22)

The Bruins remain on the road, heading west to take on No. 20 Utah on Monday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 2.
