Seven Podium Finishes for UCLA Track and Field on Day 2 in Albuquerque, Seattle

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA Track and Field team wrapped up day two of competition at the New Mexico Team Open, hosted by the University of New Mexico, and the University of Washington Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington on early Saturday evening. In both meets, the Bruins tallied seven podium finishes, placing in the top-three in women's pole vault, women's triple jump, the women's 400m invitational, the men's 800m, the men's 4x400m relay, and the women's 4x400m relay. Two event victories were claimed by the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams.

There were also top-five finishes in the men's shot put, women's shot put, men's pole vault, and the women's 800m.

The team totaled nine podium finishes and 20 Top-10 marks over two days of split squad competition this weekend.

TRACK RESULTS:
Running a 47.46 in the men's 400m invitational, graduate student Ismail Turner placed eighth overall. Junior Aly Conyers took home the silver on the women's side. Crossing the finish line with a 53.83, she moves into the sixth spot on UCLA's all-time Top-10 Indoor list for the women's 400m. She passes Joy Eaton (53.84, Feb. 13th, 2010).

Conyers also beat her own personal record of 54.03, set last season, and was also the ninth all-time best in school history.

Sophomore John Robinson IV (6.92) and junior Elijah Major (6.99) placed second and third in Heats 6 and 2 respectively in the men's unseeded 60m dash.

The team of senior Antonie Nortje, freshman Gabriel Clement II, and graduate students Cameron Reynolds and Ismail Turner cruised to the finish line (3:07.53) to take gold in the men's 4x400 relay. They move into the fifth spot on UCLA's all-time Top-10 Indoor list for the men's 4x400m relay, passing the time of 3:09.07 achieved on Feb. 28th, 2004.

On the women's side of the 4x400, Aly Conyers, senior Kate Jendrezak, Kaylen Fletcher, and sophomore Naomi Johnson also won the event dominantly with a time of 3:36.80.

FIELD RESULTS:
There were two top-five finishes for the Bruins in the shot put. In a field of 35 competitors, graduate student Natalie Ramirez placed fourth in the women's event, throwing 14.73m (48-04). On the men's side, senior Aidan Elbettar had a mark of 17.47m (57-03.75) to finish fifth.

Soaring high once again were seniors Ka'Leila Abrille (4.25m, 13-11.25) and Katerina Adamiec (4.15m, 13-07.25) in the women's pole vault with second and third-place podium finishes, respectively. Abrille and Adamiec also had podium finishes last week at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Invitational.

In the men's pole vault, sophomore Hunter O'Brien finished fourth overall with a mark of 5.36m (17.07).

Graduate student Asha Fletcher leapt 12.65m (41-02.50) to take home silver in the women's triple jump, increasing the number of Bruin podium finishes on the day. Fletcher's mark puts her in seventh on UCLA's all-time Top-10 Indoor List for women's triple jump, passing Ke'Nyia Richardson (40-11.50, Feb. 25th, 2011).

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON INVITATIONAL RESULTS:

TRACK RESULTS:
Running a 1:50.62 in his UCLA debut, graduate student Angus Harrington secured a first-place podium finish in the men's 800m race to begin the day for UCLA in Seattle.

In the women's event, another top-five Bruin mark was added with senior Rose Pittman placing fourth overall (2:04.80). Pittman passes Kate Jendrezak (2:04.99, Feb. 11, 2023) as the second-fastest women's 800m indoor time in UCLA history.

In the men's one-mile race, senior Michael Mireles finished fifth in Heat 21 and sophomore Harrison Dance finished seventh in Heat 18.

The Bruins will head to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 3, hosted by Texas A&M at Fasken Indoor Track and Field.
