Men's Golf Prepares for Upcoming Fighting Irish Classic
October 04, 2024 | Men's Golf
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's golf team will compete at the Fighting Irish Classic at the University of Notre Dame on Sunday and Monday (Oct. 6-7). This will mark the Bruins' second tournament of the fall 2024 season.
The two-day, 54-hole stroke play tournament will feature 15 teams at Warren Golf Course. The Bruins are scheduled to play 36 continuous holes on Sunday, followed by 18 holes on Monday. Follow the action live at this Scoreboard site, powered by Clippd.
The action begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (ET) on Sunday, Oct. 6. Monday's third round will begin at approximately 8 a.m. (ET) at the first and 10th tees.
UCLA's starting lineup this weekend will feature two seniors (Pablo Ereño, Omar Morales), one junior (Kyle An), one sophomore (Luke Powell) and one freshman (Trevor Garus). Bruins' freshman Baylor Larrabee will also participate at Notre Dame as an individual competitor.
"I'm really excited for the team to be traveling out to Notre Dame," Kirakossian said. "One of the big reasons for us to go to this tournament, first off, it's a great tournament and it's out in the Midwest, something that I think our guys need to be a little more used to, especially with our Big Ten Championship being out in Baltimore this year. We're really excited for this opportunity, being able to go out there and see a different part of the country, different grass and a different time zone. The weather looks like it's going to be great, which is good."
Most recently, UCLA recorded a fifth-place team finish (out of 14 teams) at The Tindall, hosted at Aldarra Golf Club just outside Seattle. Bruins' senior Pablo Ereño was named the Big Ten Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week after winning the first medal of his collegiate career (securing co-champion honors at The Tindall on Tuesday, Sept. 24). Ereño finished with a score of 11-under 202 at Aldarra.
"Obviously, we have Pablo coming off a big individual win," Kirakossian said. "We're excited to see how his momentum continues to carry into this week. We had a really competitive qualifier at home to see who would round out our lineup. I like the way that our guys were playing. It was competitive and intense. They were working really hard and shooting some good numbers at home. I think that we are in a good spot with the team. I'm excited to see how they do and come out of the blocks. I would like to see them get off to a little bit of a hotter start than we did at Aldarra, and I think that we are prepared to do that. We've got both of our freshmen traveling this week – Baylor as an individual again, and Trevor cracked his way into the lineup for the first time in his Bruin career. We're excited for the opportunity that he has to go out and shine and show what he's got. It should be a fun week and hopefully we can bring home some hardware."
