Leverette Notches 20 Kills in Four-Set Defeat to No. 6 Wisconsin

LOS ANGELES โ Cheridyn Leverette recorded a match-high 20 kills in UCLA's four-set defeat to No. 6 Wisconsin on Saturday night inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

Set scores were 25-20, 15-25, 22-25, 15-25.

The Bruins (12-13, 6-10) were unable to keep the visitors out of system after their victory in set one as the Badgers (20-5, 14-2) hit .430 collectively to win three consecutive frames. Wisconsin's Sarah Franklin racked up 19 kills at a .378 clip while Anna Smrek was extremely efficient, hitting .609 with 16 kills on the night.

Leverette stood out in the defeat with 20 kills at a .368 hitting percentage, marking the second time this season the junior has recorded 20 or more kills in a match.

Anna Dodson was impressive defensively with four blocks, including three solo, and added eight kills. Peyton Dueck led the team with 12 digs, while Kate Reilly also reached double digits with 11 digs.

At the setter position, Audrey Pak distributed 43 assists and registered seven digs.

UCLA came out firing in the opening set behind Leverette's six kills on her first seven swings. The Bruins delivered a 5-1 scoring run a dump from Pak and back-to-back A. Dodson solo blocks to manage a 20-15 lead. In all, UCLA hit .433 as a team to grab the first on its home court, 25-20.

The Bruins' offense fell out of sync in the second frame, hitting in the negatives after committing nine attack errors. UCLA also had four misfires from the service line. Wisconsin capitalized by hitting .412 with 19 total kills to earn a set two victory.

Pak came up with another impressive dump kill to give the Bruins an early lead in the third set. The Badgers replied with a 5-0 run to take a commanding lead, however, eight service errors allowed UCLA to climb back within striking distance. Despite the miscues, Wisconsin won four of the last five points to narrowly win set three, 25-22.

Wisconsin posted its highest hitting percentage of the match in the final set, hitting .472 to cruise to a 25-15 win and clinch the four-set victory.
