Men's Tennis Beats Loyola Marymount 6-1 in Return Home

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's tennis team earned its third consecutive victory Wednesday afternoon, beating Loyola Marymount by a 6-1 score at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The start time of the non-conference match was pushed up one hour due to impending rain.
Giacomo Revelli logged a two-win day for the Bruins (3-2). Also victorious on the singles courts were Spencer Johnson, Aadarsh Tripathi, Emon van Loben Sels and Azuma Visaya, who clinched the decision in his first dual-match action of the season. Arthur Pantino registered the lone win of the day for the Lions (2-1).
Revelli and Timothy Li cruised to a 6-0 triumph over Sebastian Nothhaft and Toky Ranaivo on the top doubles court to set the tone. Soon after, the third UCLA pair of Jeffrey Fradkin and reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week Govind Nanda defeated Alex Padro Parra and Yassine Smiej by a 6-1 score to clinch the first point. The appearance was Fradkin's first of the 2024 dual-match campaign. He is 3-0 going back to tournament action.
The Bruins picked up four singles first sets and each finished with a straight-set decision. First off was the matchup of Johnson and Nothhaft on Court 2, where UCLA's team leader in wins improved to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in dual-match play with a 6-1, 6-2 performance.
Courts 4 and 6 ended almost concurrently, with van Loben Sels first downing Ranaivo 6-2, 6-3 on the former. The singles victory was van Loben Sels' third in a row. Visaya then sealed the overall win, polishing off a 6-2, 6-1 showing opposite Padro Parra. Visaya matched the team high with three clinching wins in 2023.
The back courts were cleared when Tripathi added a 6-3, 6-3 result over Wuelfing to the tally. LMU got on the board when Pantino outlasted Plans Gonzalez 7-5, 6-3 on Court 3. Revelli then completed a comeback on the top court, overcoming Smiej 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(7). The Court 1 singles appearance was the first of Revelli's career.
The Bruins return to action Sunday, Feb. 18, when they visit Pepperdine for a match added to the schedule earlier this week. First serve from Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.
