LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA Swimming and Diving program went toe to toe with No. 4 USC on Friday afternoon at the Spieker Aquatics Center, but fell 164-136. The Bruins had multiple top-three finishes throughout the meet highlighted by Rosie Murphy setting a school record in the 200 yard backstroke.

The big moment of the day, outside of senior day festivities for the Bruins, was Rosie Murphy breaking the school record in the 200 yard backstroke. The sophomore was the class of the field, winning the event in 1:53.25 and beating the field by over four seconds, en route to the school record.

Earlier on in the day the Bruins took second and third in the 200 yard medley relay. The UCLA 'A' squad of Fay Lustria, Sarah Bennetts, Joanie Cash and Brooke Schaffer took second place in 1:37.97, while the 'B' team of Amy Zhang, Ana Jih-Schiff, Aislinn Walsh and Maya Wilson came in third in 1:38.32.

The first event win of the day came from Paige MacEachern on Friday in the 200 yard butterfly. The junior took the top spot in the event in 1:57.10, while Ashley Kolessar finished in second place to make it a UCLA 1-2, with a time of 1:58.26.

After winning the 200 backstroke, Rosie Murphy earned a second win in the 200 yard IM. The Sacramento, California native took the win in 1:57.45, and was quickly followed by Ana Jih-Schiff in 1:58.53.

Over on the diving side of the pool deck the Bruins once again faired well. Savana Trueb earned a win in the 3M dive with an impressive score of 323.55, while Zoe Jespersgaard came in second in 311.70.

As for the 1M dive, the same two Bruins earned spots on the podium. Jespersgaard earned her second silver medal of the meet, with a score of 299.85, while Trueb took third with a score of 278.93.

To wrap up the meet the Bruins took the Trojans to the wire in the 200 free relay. UCLA's 'A' team of Brooke Schaffer, Maya Wilson, Maddie Wright, and Joanie Cash finished in 1:29.21, just .05 of a second behind USC to finish second, earning a NCAA 'B' cut in the process.

Up next for the Bruins is the Pac-12 Championships Feb. 28-March 2nd, hosted at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.
