March 11, 2024 | Softball
LOS ANGELES โ Redshirt senior Maya Brady on the No. 16 UCLA softball team was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
ย
Brady's six career weekly conference awards are tied with UCLA Athletic Hall of Famer and current associate head coach Lisa Fernandez for second in program history. She trails Stacey Nuveman Deniz with nine weekly awards.
ย
Brady led the Bruins (14-6, 3-0 Pac-12) with a .667 average (4-for-6), two home runs, eight runs batted in, 10 total bases and four walks in a series sweep of Utah last week. The shortstop slugger reached base in eight of her 10 plate appearances.
ย
Brady's best performance of the weekend came in game three when she went 2-for-2 and tied her career high in RBI in with six. In the second inning, Brady launched the fourth grand slam of her career on a 3-0 count to put the Bruins up, 7-1. She stepped the plate with the bases loaded again the very next inning, and with two outs, hit a hot shot to first base that skipped to the right field wall to clear the bases for the second time to put the mercy rule into effect.
ย
In game one, Brady opened the scoring with a two-run, opposite field homer on the first pitch of her at-bat. With her eight RBI, Brady moved into sixth place on UCLA's career RBI list with 205. Her two home runs improved her career total to 60 which is one shy of tying Tairia (Mims) Flowers and Delaney Spaulding for third most in UCLA history.
ย
This season, Brady leads UCLA with a .393 batting average (min. 30 at-bats), 27 RBI, .787 slugging percentage, 11 extra-base hits and 19 runs scored.
