UCLA Visits Seattle for Pac-12 Series at Washington
The UCLA baseball team (12-18, 5-10) heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for a three-game Pac-12 series at league rival Washington (9-16-1, 3-9) starting on Friday night at 6 p.m. PT and continuing on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT and Sunday at 1 p.m. PT. The Week In Review
UCLA is 1-3 over the last week, winning one of three against Oregon and dropping a midweek to Pepperdine:

FRI — UCLA allowed just three earned runs as a team, but ultimately dropped an 8-4 decision to Oregon in the opener. UCLA briefly led after scoring a pair to go up 2-1 in the third, but Oregon went ahead for good with a four-spot in the fourth. Caedon Kottinger and JonJon Vaughns were solid out of the bullpen for UCLA, holding the visitors to a single unearned run over 4 2/3 innings until Jeffery Heard created seperation with a two-run double with two outs in the ninth. UCLA had six hits on the night, including a solo homer from AJ Salgado and a triple from Payton Brennan.
SAT — Quintt Landis drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th to force in the winning run of a 4-3 walk-off result over Oregon. UCLA got the first two batters of the 10th aboard, as Cashel Dugger led off with a ground single up the middle before Payton Brennan reached when the Oregon pitcher slipped while fielding his sac bunt attempt. A walk loaded the bases before Landis's winner. UCLA built an early 3-1 lead after Roch Cholowsky provided an RBI hit-and-run double in the third and later scored on a wild pitch. Luke Rodriguez and Rashad Ruff were stellar out of the bullpen for UCLA, combining to allow just one hit while striking out seven over 4 2/3 innings.
SUN — Oregon clinched the rubber match with a 6-3 win on the strength of a five-run third. UCLA held Oregon to one run after that go-ahead rally, including 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball from the bullpen trio of Justin Lee, Caedon Kottinger, and Rashad Ruff. Jack Holman had a solo home run for the Bruins, and Duce Gourson provided an RBI single to highlight a two-run fifth. UCLA had chances in the late innings but couldn't convert. The Bruins got four baserunners aboard in the seventh, but a double play negated any potential damage. UCLA then got the first two batters aboard in the eighth, but stranded them both.
TUE — UCLA allowed just five hits, but logged a 10-2 loss at home to Pepperdine after issuing 10 walks, hitting three batters, and committing three errors. Frosh lefties Will Goldberg and Kaena Kiakona, two of seven pitchers used by UCLA, made their NCAA debuts in the game. AJ Salgado had two knocks and made a nice running catch in right field. Starter Luke Rodriguez was strong over three innings of work, allowing just one run on a first-inning solo homer.

The All-Time Series Against Washington
UCLA owns a 58-32 record all-time against UW, including a 34-22 mark under head coach John Savage. The Bruins are seeking their first season series win over Washington since 2019 (UCLA swept UW at home), and first series win in Seattle since 2014 (UCLA won two of three to close out that regular season). The two teams split four games last year, with Washington taking two of three in Westwood during the regular season before UCLA claimed a win at the Pac-12 Tournament. The Bruins have faced Washington in each of the last two league tourneys.

Last Year Against the Huskies
UCLA went 2-2 against Washington last year, dropping two of three at home from Mar. 24-26 before responding with a win in the Pac-12 Tournament:

Game 1 — Jake Brooks delivered 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball and Jack Holman hit a decisive two-run homer in the fourth as UCLA recorded a 5-1 win in the series opener. Holman's roundtripper opened the scoring, and Duce Gourson and Cody Schrier provided RBI doubles in a three-run seventh. Cody Delvecchio and Charles Harrison got the Bruins out of jams in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively. Brooks retired the first seven batters of the game, and established then-season highs in both IP and Ks (nine). UW's best chance against him came after back-to-back singles to lead off the fourth, but Brooks sent down the next three batters in order to strand both runners.
Game 2 — UW evened up the series with a 3-0 win in 10 innings. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie through nine, with UCLA allowing just two hits (both singles) during that time. Washington strung together five hits in the 10th for a decisive three-spot. Michael Barnett was a standout for the Bruins, throwing 5 2/3 no-hit innings in his first-career weekend start.
Game 3 — UCLA was edged, 11-10, in a rubber-match shootout on Sunday. The Bruins led the game, 3-2, through five innings, but Washington tied it up in the sixth before posting seven runs in the seventh and another in the eighth. The Bruins fought back in the late innings, with Carson Yates and JonJon Vaughns hitting three-run homers to cut the deficit to two, but UCLA ultimately left the bags full in the eighth.
Game 4 (May 26 at P12T) — UCLA posted a 17-4 win over Washington in the team's second and final game of the Pac-12 Tournament. The game was called after seven innings due to the run rule. All nine starters had a hit for UCLA, five drove in multiple runs, and four had multiple hits. Duce Gourson (4-5, two RBIs), Josh Hahn (3-4, four RBIs), Jarrod Hocking (3-3, reached times), and Jack Holman (2-4, four runs) had particularly strong days with the bat. Kelly Austin struck out a dozen over five innings to finish his campaign with 104 Ks, the first Bruin to hit triple digits since 2019.
