U.S. Women's National Team Olympic Coaching Staff

Three Bruins Represented on USA Women’s Volleyball Olympic Coaching Staff

June 11, 2024 | Men's Volleyball, Softball, Women's Volleyball

UCLA Athletic Hall of Famers Karch Kiraly and Sue Enquist and current UCLA Women's Volleyball Head Coach Alfee Reft are on the USA Women's Volleyball National Team coaching staff that will represent the country at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 from July 28-Aug. 11.

Kiraly has served as head coach of the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team since September 2012. Reft is in his third year as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women after first joining the team in December 2021. Enquist will be helping the team in her role as culture consultant.

Kiraly, a two-time gold medalist for the USA Men's Indoor Team at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games as a player, was a three-time NCAA Champion and four-time All-American at UCLA from 1979-82. Kiraly went on to win another gold medal at the 1996 Olympic games in beach volleyball. He is the only player (man or woman) to have won Olympic medals of any color in both the indoor and beach disciplines.

Reft led the Bruins' women's volleyball squad to an 18-2 record and 10-10 mark in Pac-12 Conference matches in his first year as head coach in 2023. UCLA's season was highlighted by three victories over top-25 opponents, including two on the road in the final three weeks of the season.

Enquist was a six-time NCAA Champion head coach for the UCLA softball program over 18 seasons from 1989-06. Enquist ranks first among all Division I head coaches with an .835 winning percentage (min. 10 years and 500 wins). As a player, Enquist was the program's first-ever All-American in 1982 and helped the Bruins to their first-ever championship, claiming the AIAW title in 1978.

In 2021, Kiraly coached the U.S. Women's Team to its first ever Olympic gold medal as the team went 7-1 in Tokyo, sweeping longtime rival Brazil in the final.

The U.S. Women went into the 2024 season ranked No. 2 in the world. The team has competed in 12 Olympic Games, including the last 10. The U.S. Women qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, which the United States boycotted. The U.S. Women have won one Olympic gold medal (2020), three silver medals (1984, 2008 and 2012) and two bronze medals (1992 and 2016).

The women's Olympic competition schedule and pools will be revealed at the conclusion of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League preliminary rounds, which end on June 16. The U.S. Women play their final preliminary round of the Volleyball Nations League next week in Fukuoka, Japan.

Indoor volleyball at the 2024 Olympic Games will take place at South Paris Arena 1.
