Men's Golf Wins Championship at Fighting Irish Classic

October 06, 2025 | Men's Golf

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The UCLA men's golf team won the team championship at the 2025 Fighting Irish Classic on Tuesday afternoon, shooting 1-over 71 in the third round at Warren Golf Course.

UCLA's team title marked the Bruins' fourth championship in one year. Last season, UCLA took the team championship at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate in Carmel, Calif., in the fall, followed by spring season wins at The Goodwin (hosted at Stanford University) and at the Big Ten Championships in Baltimore, Md.

The Bruins had entered the morning three strokes behind North Carolina on the team leaderboard. UCLA led all 16 competitors on Tuesday, in the third round, shooting 1-over par – Notre Dame shot 3-over 73 for the second-best score of the afternoon.

UCLA concluded the 54-hole stroke-play tournament with a team score of 7-under 833, three strokes in front of second-place North Carolina (4-under 836) and 11 strokes ahead of third-place Notre Dame (4-over 844).

"We're so pumped for this win, especially considering how tough the final round was today," head coach Armen Kirakossian said. "The weather had turned. Yesterday for the first two rounds, it had been sunny and beautiful – around 80 degrees, just a great day. And then today, we had a cold front that came in and it rained throughout the round. The winds were coming in from another direction, but our boys stepped up and really rose when the conditions got tough. As a coach, you just cannot be more proud of that. To get the win on top of that with the result, it feels amazing. Our all played steady the entire week. We were always in it, just sticking to the gameplan. We brought great energy. That was something we were looking for this week, to make sure that we were having fun and interacting with each other, and laughing on the course and doing a good job of staying loose. We were able to do all of that in a great way. It's an amazing feeling for us to come out here and win that trophy, having traveled all the way across the country to face some different teams."

Three Bruins finished among the top seven individual competitors at the Fighting Irish Classic. Sophomore Baylor Larrabee carded 4-under 206 through three rounds, in a tie for fourth place. Senior Kyle An and freshman Tyler Loree finished in a three-way tie for fifth place. They each shot 3-under 207 through the two-day tournament. An finished one-under 69 on Tuesday, while Loree shot two-under 68.

Junior Luciano Conlan tied for 35th place on the individual leaderboard, closing the tournament at 6-over 216 (round scores of 72-70-74). Sophomore Logan Kim (T-46th) shot 8-over 218 with round scores of 69-70-79.

Junior Alex Papayoanou, competing as an individual, tied for 46th place with a final score of 8-over 218 (round scores of 75-73-70).

Larrabee (fourth place) and An (tied for fifth place) each registered their best individual collegiate finishes. Larrabee had finished in ninth place last season at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate. An concluded the Amer Ari Intercollegiate in sixth place last season. Loree was competing this week in his third college golf tournament. Loree finished in first place last month at the Soldier Hollow Individual in Utah before this week's fifth (tied) place finish at the University of Notre Dame.

Loree, who shot 2-under 68 on Tuesday, finished the third and final round with three birdies and just one bogey. He had the best score of any Bruins on Tuesday. An shot 1-under 69 on Tuesday, finishing the round with four birdies and three bogeys.

UCLA will return to action with its final fall golf tournament later this month, competing at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational (hosted in Alpharetta, Ga.). The dates of that tournament run from Friday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Oct. 26.
