Bruins Fall to Huskies in Three

SEATTLE – The UCLA women's volleyball team fell to Washington in straight sets on Saturday night inside Alaska Airlines Arena.
Set scores were 17-25, 25-27, 18-25.
UCLA (16-12, 10-8 Big Ten) saw three players reach double-digit kills in the defeat. Cheridyn Leverette led the Bruins with 13 kills, Maggie Li recorded 11 kills, and Marianna Singletary tallied 10.
Washington (12-16, 7-11 Big Ten) received a standout performance from Simona Mateska who finished with a team-high 13 kills. Kierstyn Barton also ascended into double figures with 12 kills on the night.
Kate Duffey reached a significant milestone in the match, registering her 1,000th career assist. UCLA's setter handed out 23 assists and racked up five digs on the evening.
Lola Schumacher posted her 23rd game with double-digit digs, collecting a match-high 15 digs in the contest.
UCLA opened the match with a 4-0 run as Leverette connected on four of her first five swings to give the Bruins a 7-6 lead, but Washington quickly answered with a 5-0 run to regain control. Leverette's fifth kill of the set and an ace from Singletary helped UCLA tie the frame at 16-all following a 6-1 surge. The Huskies, however, closed strong with a decisive 9-1 run to take the opener, despite Leverette and Li combining for 11 kills.
The Bruins responded in set two with a dominant start, fueled by a massive kill from Anastasija Ivkovic and a pair of blocks from Brooklyn Briscoe to build a 9-3 advantage. Singletary added three kills to maintain momentum, and her solo block and ace pushed the lead to 17-11. Washington clawed back within two at 19-17 and later tied the set at 22-all. Leverette and Singletary each delivered clutch kills to earn set points, but the Huskies fended them off and ultimately prevailed, 27-25.
In the third, Washington jumped ahead 5-2 and extended the margin with consecutive 3-0 runs to lead 14-6. The Huskies hit .394 in the frame and closed out the sweep with a 25-18 victory.
The Bruins head to Michigan on Wednesday, Nov. 26, with first serve set for 4 p.m. (PT). The matchup kicks off the final week of the regular season and will stream live on B1G+.
