Bruins Downed by Ducks in Four Sets
November 06, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
EUGENE, Ore. – The UCLA women's volleyball team fell to Oregon in four sets on Thursday night inside Matthew Knight Arena.
Set scores were 9-25, 22-25, 25-23, 22-25.
UCLA (13-10, 7-6 Big Ten) had trouble finding its offensive rhythm, committing 30 attack errors, its second-highest total of the season, to finish with a .100 hitting percentage. The Bruins also struggled from the service line, recording 10 errors on the night.
Oregon (14-9, 5-8 Big Ten) capitalized on standout performances from Alanah Clemente (14 kills) and Sophia Meyers (13 kills), securing the season sweep over UCLA.
Maggie Li reached a major milestone in the match, recording her 1,000th career kill while finishing with nine kills and six digs.
Cheridyn Leverette led the Bruins offensively with a team-high 11 kills, the only player in double figures, while Brooklyn Briscoe turned in a strong all-around performance with seven kills on .400 hitting and three total blocks.
Zayna Meyer stepped in at setter and dished out 29 assists while Lola Schumacher anchored the back row with a match-high 17 digs.
Oregon seized early control of the opening set, racing out to a 7-1 lead and prompting a UCLA timeout. The Ducks continued to dominate by rattling off seven consecutive points that stretched the margin to 19-7, fueled by relentless service pressure that kept the Bruins out of system. UCLA struggled to find rhythm, committing nine attacking errors and hitting in the negatives. Oregon capitalized with a sharp offensive rhythm, swinging at a .455 clip and closing the set on a commanding 13-1 run to secure a comfortable win.
UCLA gained a brief edge in the second set behind consecutive blocks from Singletary, but Oregon responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead. The Bruins bounced back, winning six of the next seven points with Singletary at the service line to reclaim momentum. The Ducks countered with five straight points to retake control, and although a dump kill from Meyer trimmed the deficit to 21-20, four UCLA service errors down the stretch stalled any comeback effort, allowing Oregon to close out the set, 25-22.
Oregon opened the third set with a 4-1 lead, but UCLA responded with a 7-1 surge to go up 10-8, highlighted by a thunderous kill and a block from Singletary that sparked the momentum shift. The Bruins continued to roll, with a Leverette ace capping a 3-0 run for a 14-10 advantage, followed by back-to-back kills from Briscoe to extend the lead to 17-13. Ivkovic and Li added consecutive kills to push the margin to 19-14 and force an Oregon timeout. The Ducks clawed back with a 5-1 run to make it 20-19, but a Schumacher ace gave UCLA breathing room. Oregon answered with a 4-0 burst to take a late 23-22 lead and just two points from closing out the match, however, the Bruins closed strong with a Leverette kill and an Anastasija Ivkovic solo block to finish the set and extend the match.
UCLA opened the fourth set with a 5-1 burst behind powerful kills from Leverette and Singletary, but Oregon answered with a 4-0 run to tie it at 6-6. The Bruins responded with another 4-0 surge to build an 11-7 lead, though the Ducks rallied with four straight points to go ahead 15-4. Blocks from Singletary and Briscoe helped UCLA stay close as both teams traded points, but a late Oregon push ultimately sealed the fourth set and the match.
The Bruins return to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. (PT) for a contest against Northwestern. The match will be available for viewing on B1G+.
