Bruins Wrap up Competition at Bruin Diving Invite, UNLV First Chance Invite

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 23ย UCLAย Swimming and Diving teams were both in action this weekend at the UNLV First Chance Diving Invitational in Los Angeles and the First Chance Invitational in Las Vegas.

The Bruins found success on the boards in Westwood on Saturday afternoon. In the 1-meter event, Laura Fisher finished in first with a score of 251.40. In the 3-meter event, the Bruins swept the podium. Eden Cheng finished in first place with a score of 325.43. Molly Brascia earned second place with a score of 311.25, and Fisher finished in third place with a score of 289.58.

The UCLA swim team took action in Las Vegas beginning on Friday evening. In the first event of the competition, the 500-yard freestyle, the Bruins finished in first and third place. Beril Bocekler earned first place in the event with a time of 4:56.39, and Abi Winnicki touched in third with a time of 5:03.73.

Fiona Schere won the 50 freestyle event, finishing with a time of 23.85. Grace Dougherty added on another individual event win with a time of 2:00.81 in the 200 backstroke, and Alexis Schaffer won the 100 freestyle in 51.47.

In the 100 breaststroke, Elena Dry earned second place with a time of 1:06.05. Schaffer finished in second place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.92, and Dougherty took third place in 1:51.58. Dry then went on to finish in third place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.45.ย

On Saturday afternoon, the Bruins returned to action in the First Chance Invitational in Las Vegas. Winnicki finished the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.67. Dougherty earned a time of 2:03.70 in the 200 IM, and Schere finished the 100 butterfly at 58.46.

Bocekler competed in the 200 freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:52.49 in the event. Dry then posted a time of 2:26.09 in the 200 breaststroke.ย

UP NEXT:ย The Bruins will travel to the Big Ten Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The meet will take place from Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Saturday, Feb. 22 and will mark the first time UCLA has taken part at the championships.
