IN THE RANKINGS ย
UCLA moved up three spots to No. 2 in the national rankings, which are now based on National Qualifying Score (NQS). The Bruins remained at No. 1 on floor exercise and No. 7 on vault and moved up one spot to No. 3 on beam and up 10 spots on bars to No. 5. Jordan Chiles now ranks No. 1 on floor, supplanting Brooklyn Moors, who moved into No. 2 after a two-week reign at No. 1. Emma Malabuyo ranks No. 2 on beam, and Frida Esparza ranks No. 3 on bars. Chiles and Chae Campbell are each ranked on three events. Chiles is No. 1 on floor, No. 8 on vault and No. 23 on bars, while Campbell is No. 12 in the all-around, No. 13 on vault and No. 22 on floor. Malabuyo is also ranked on multiple events, checking in at No. 14 on floor in addition to No. 2 on beam. Emily Lee ranks No. 11 on beam, and Ciena Alipio ranks No. 23.

ABOUT THE WOLVERINESย
Michigan is tied for second in the Big Ten standings with a 4-1 record and is 8-2 overall, with wins in four consecutive meets. The No. 15 Wolverines are ranked in the Top 20 on all four events, sitting at No. 7 on beam, No. 15 on bars and floor and No. 18 on vault. Kayli Boozer is the highest-ranked Wolverine at No. 14 on beam, while Carly Bauman ranks No. 19 on floor and 23 on bars and beam. Michigan scored a season-high 197.100 on Feb. 9 in a dual meet win against Nebraska. UCLA is 8-8 all-time against Michigan, with the Wolverines winning the last matchup in 2023 at the Super 16. This is the Bruins' first trip to Ann Arbor since winning the 2019 NCAA Regionals.ย

LAST TIME OUT
UCLA hit 24-for-24 for the second-straight meet to defeat No. 25 Penn State, 197.675-195.450 at home on Feb. 14. The victory was UCLA's fifth consecutive Big Ten Conference win. The Bruins earned a season-high 49.575 on uneven bars and record a total of 10 scores of 9.9 or higher. Jordan Chiles won the all-around with a season-high 39.600 and tied for first on uneven bars and floor exercise. Freshman Mika Webster-Longin earned her first career event victory, tying for first on vault with a 9.850. Frida Esparza scored a new career-high 9.975 to tie with Chiles for first on bars. Emily Lee won the balance beam with a leadoff 9.925 on her only routine of the day, and Brooklyn Moors and Chiles added to their collection of floor exercise titles, tying for first with scores of 9.950. ย ย

CHILES, ESPARZA EARN BIG TEN HONORS ย
Jordan Chiles and Frida Esparza were selected the Big Ten Conference Gymnast and Co-Event Specialist of the Week, respectively. Chiles earned her fourth award this season, while Esparza captured her first-ever conference specialist of the week award. The duo helped lead UCLA to another strong team score of 197.675, helping the Bruins soar to No. 2 in the national rankings. Their back-to-back 9.975 scores on uneven bars helped UCLA earn a season-high 49.575 on the event. In addition to the bars win, Chiles won the all-around with a season-high 39.600, her second all-around win of the season. She also captured her sixth consecutive floor title, scoring 9.950. Each of her last six floor routines have scored 9.950 or higher. Additionally, she tied for third on vault with a 9.825 and was sixth on beam with a 9.850. Esparza's 9.975 on bars established a new career-high for the graduate student, and the perfect 10 awarded from one of the two judges was her first-ever perfect score received. She has won bars in two consecutive meets and holds a team-leading four bars victories. She now ranks No. 3 in the nation on bars and is averaging 9.904 on her signature event.ย

STILL THAT GIRL ย
Olympic gold medalist and two-time Olympian Jordan Chiles has seamlessly made the transition from Olympic medalist to UCLA Bruin (again). Chiles made her much-anticipated return to UCLA after a one-year absence to train for and ultimately win gold and bronze at the 2024 Olympics. She rejoined the Bruin team on Dec. 14 after the fall quarter ended and has competed in at least three events in every meet, even with limited training time prior to the season. The four-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Week has two all-around victories in four meets and scored a season-best 39.600 Feb. 14 to win the meet against Penn State. She scored her first perfect 10 of the year and ninth of her career at Maryland on Jan. 18, receiving a 10.0 on uneven bars, and she added another 10 on Feb. 1, this time on floor exercise to clinch a UCLA comeback victory on the final event. That walk-off 10 was Chiles' fifth floor 10 of her career and 10th 10 overall, ranking her No. 5 all-time at UCLA with 10 career 10s. She is also No. 3 on bars and floor with five 10s on each event. Only Kyla Ross (11) and Jamie Dantzscher (7) have scored more 10s on bars, and only Dantzscher (17) and Katelyn Ohashi (9) have more than Chiles on floor. During Chiles' last NCAA season in 2023, she captured the NCAA uneven bars and floor exercise titles and helped lead UCLA to a fifth-place NCAA finish and Pac-12 regular season co-championship.ย

GIMME MOORS ย
After a two-week run at No. 1 in the national rankings on floor exercise, 2020 Canadian Olympian Brooklyn Moors drops down one spot to No. 2 behind teammate Jordan Chiles. Moors still holds the highest season average in the nation, at 9.939. She has not scored lower than 9.900 this year and has five scores of 9.950 or higher, with a career-high of 9.975 set Feb. 1 against Michigan State. Moors has placed in the Top 3 on floor in every meet and has captured four event titles. She has competed on three events in all seven meets this season. The last season she competed in three events was 2022, as she has mostly served as a floor specialist the last two years while dealing with injuries. At Washington on Feb. 7, she tied for first on floor with a 9.950, tied her career-high on vault with a second-place 9.900, and set a new career-best on beam with a 9.900. She earned Big Ten Co-Event Specialist of the Week on Jan. 21 after earning season-high marks on each event at Maryland, tying for first on floor with a 9.950, tying for second on vault with a 9.875 and finishing fifth on beam with a 9.850. ย ย

BUYO BEAM QUEEN ย ย
Senior Emma Malabuyo has solidified her status as one of the best beam workers in the NCAA, ranking No. 2 in the nation with an NQS of 9.920 and a season average of 9.914. She has scored 9.900 or higher in six of seven meets this season, with a high of 9.975, and has earned Top 2 finishes in six meet, including four wins. The 2024 Philippines Olympian and two-time All-American averages 9.864 on beam in her career and has 11 scores of 9.950 or better, including one 10.0 and five 9.975s. She has also been strong on floor exercise, ranking No. 14 nationally with a NQS of 9.895. Malabuyo averages 9.843 on floor over her career, with a career-high of 9.950 and season-best of 9.925, which she achieved against Illinois in a second-place showing. Last week against Penn State, she tied her career-high on uneven bars with a 9.900. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย

ESPARZA'S ELECTRIC EVENING
Graduate student Frida Esparza had an electric evening on Feb. 14, starting the day by playing the national anthem on electric guitar and then ending it by tying for first place on uneven bars with a career-high 9.975, earning a perfect 10 from one of the two judges for the first time in her career. Esparza has been lights out for UCLA on bars this season and ranks No. 3 in the nation with a NQS of 9.910 and a season average of 9.904. She leads the team with four uneven bars victories and six Top 3 finishes. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย

FOLLOW THE LEE-DER ย ย
In her usual No. 1 spot on balance beam, leadoff legend Emily Lee sets the tone for the No. 3 beam squad in the nation. The Bruins are averaging 49.329 on beam and have earned 49.4 or higher four times this year, including three times on the road. Lee started each of those four rotations with scores of 9.900 or higher, including a season-high and meet-winning 9.925 on Feb. 14. Her 9.900 at Washington was the first of six 9.9+ scores on beam, marking the first time since 2016 that a UCLA team had all six competitors score 9.9 or higher on beam. UCLA scored a season-best 49.625 in that meet, the No. 6 mark in school history. In her career as a leadoff performer on beam, Lee is averaging 9.849 and has scored 9.900 or higher 56% of the time (19 times in 34 meets). Her leadoff prowess is not confined to beam. As the vault leadoff this year, she is averaging 9.821 with a high of 9.900, and in two floor leadoff performances, she is averaging 9.863. She made her floor season debut against Michigan State on Feb. 1, scoring 9.875 to help the Bruins post a national-best 49.800 floor mark. A queen of consistency, Lee has hit all 94 of her routines in her career without a fall, with her only sub-9.6 score coming due to a start value deficiency. ย  ย ย

ALL-AROUND EXCELLENCE ย ย
Graduate student Chae Campbell has competed in the all-around in each of the last six meets, averaging 39.442. She ranks No. 12 in the nation with a 39.405 NQS, and her season average is ninth-best amongst ranked all-arounders. Campbell has finished in the Top 3 in the all-around in each meet and has two victories, winning against Illinois on Jan. 25 with a 39.400 and posting what was then the Big Ten's top all-around mark on Feb. 7 with a 39.625 at Washington. Campbell won Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week honors that week, the second conference gymnast of the week honor of her career. Campbell ranks 13th in the nation on vault with a NQS of 9.875. She averages 9.875 on her 9.950 start-value vault and posted highs of 9.925 twice this year. On floor, she ranks 22nd with a 9.880 NQS and averages 9.896 on the year, with a high of 9.975 set Feb. 1 against Michigan State. She set a new season high on uneven bars Feb. 14 against Penn State, scoring 9.875 in the leadoff position to help the Bruins record a season-high mark of 49.575.

FABULOUS FRESHMEN ย  ย
Macy McGowan and Mika Webster-Longin have been integral competitors on the Bruin squad all season. McGowan has hit all 21 of her routines this season and averages over 9.8 on each of her three events, including 9.861 on floor and 9.836 on bars. She has not scored under 9.750 on any event this season. McGowan has career-best marks of 9.900 on vault, 9.875 on bars and 9.950 on floor. Webster-Longin has also competed in every meet for UCLA and had a breakthrough performance Feb. 14 against Penn State, capturing her first event win with a career-high 9.850 on vault, earning a career-best 9.900 to lead off on floor, and scoring 9.825 on bars. Webster-Longin has totaled four Top 3 finishes this season. Additionally, Riley Jenkins has competed twice on vault this season after missing the first month due to a preseason injury and has scored 9.850 and 9.800 on her Yurchenko 1.5 vault. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย

Sophomore Sydney Barros is back in action for her first year of competition in collegiate gymnastics. The 2023 Puerto Rican all-around national champion and World Championships qualifier missed the 2024 NCAA season after tearing her ACL at the 2023 Central American Games and made her Bruin competitive debut at the American Gold Classic, scoring 9.550 on uneven bars, and has performed exhibitions in three meets, scoring highs of 9.800 on floor and 9.825 on bars. Barros is a former three-time U.S. National Team member and bronze medalist at the 2019 Junior World Championships. ย  ย

Esparza earned all-conference honors on uneven bars as a freshman and owns career-highs of 9.975 on bars and 9.900 on balance beam. Campbell currently ranks No. 12 in the nation in the all-around and has captured two all-around wins, including a win Feb. 7 at Washington with a then-Big Ten-best 39.625. Esparza has four event victories on uneven bars and has scored career-highs in back-to-back meets with a 9.950 on Feb. 7 and 9.975 on Feb. 14.
