RECAPPING THE PURDUE SWEEP
UCLA opened its Big Ten Conference tenure with a three-game sweep of Purdue last week from March 14-16. The Bruins have swept the last two regular-season conference series they have played dating back to 2024 (swept Arizona State in a three-game set).
Game One: The Bruins recorded their ninth shutout of the season in their game one victory, defeating the Boilermakers 6-0. Junior RHP Tinsley put forth six solid innings while striking out 10 in her game one start. Freshman SS Kaniya Bragg blew the game open with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Game Two: UCLA eeked out a narrow 2-1 victory in game two behind junior 3B Jordan Woolery's go-ahead solo shot in the third inning. There were just five base hits in the ballgame (three for UCLA, two for Purdue).
Game Three: The Bruins rallied from a 5-1 deficit with a trio of home runs to secure the series sweep with a 7-5 win. Woolery sparked the rally with a first-pitch solo home run to lead off a two-run third inning. Junior 1B Megan Grant tied up the game with a two-run homer in the fourth and senior RF Savannah Pola hit a line drive over the right field wall to give the Bruins the lead.

WOOLERY AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
Junior INF Jordan Woolery is tied for the NCAA DI lead with 48 runs batted in and ranks second with 14 home runs, trailing only Arkansas' Bri Ellis (15 HR). Woolery owns a .422 batting average (38-for-90) and leads UCLA with 24 extra-base hits and a 1.022 slugging percentage. The Walnut Creek, Calif. native opened 2025 on a 13-game hitting streak and has recorded a base hit in 27 of 31 games this season. Woolery surpassed her previous season high of 10 homers set during both her freshman and sophomore years on March 9 at LMU after registering her second two-homer performance of the season, pushing her total to 12. Her first two-homer game of 2025 came against Utah on Feb. 28. She has totaled three two-homer games in her career.
ย
SHOWING NO MERCY
UCLA's 15 mercy-rule victories this season are its most through the first 28 games in program history. The program record for mercy-rule wins in a season is 21 set in both the 2010 and 2015 seasons. On the year, UCLA is averaging 7.94 runs per game while limiting opponents to 2.00.
ย
BIG TEN PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Junior righty Taylor Tinsley was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 17 after helping UCLA to two wins in its series sweep of Purdue last week at Easton Stadium. The honor marks the third conference Pitcher of the Week award in her career after earning two in the Pac-12 last season. Tinsley recorded a win and save while striking out 11 batters over 6.0 scoreless innings in the conference-opening sweep. She started in the game one win and allowed just two of the 16 batters she faced to reach base (both hits) while striking out 10. The performance marked her third double-digit strikeout outing of the season and third of her career. Tinsley faced the minimum in all but one of her five innings in game one and did not allow a runner into scoring position. In game two, Tinsley needed just 11 pitches to earn her second save of the season in a tight 2-1 victory.
ย
BRUINS DIG THE LONGBALL
UCLA has totaled 49 home runs through 31 games from 10 different players this season. The Bruins are averaging 1.58 home runs per game, which is their best mark since UCLA's 2010 NCAA title season (1.77 HR/G). That year, the Bruins set the program record for most home runs in a season with 108 over 61 games. UCLA went homerless in its win over San Diego on March 11, snapping a 10-game streak with at least one home run. In that 10-game span, UCLA homered 24 times for an average of 2.4 homers per game.
ย
Junior INF Jordan Woolery surpassed her previous season high of 10 homers set during her freshman and sophomore years on March 9 at LMU with her second two-homer performance of the 2025, pushing her season total to 12 in 27 games. Woolery currently leads the team with 14 home runs on the season. Junior UTIL Megan Grant ranks second on the team with 11 home runs. During week five, Grant tied a 12-year-old UCLA record by homering in five straight games to match B.B. Bates' original streak set in 2013.
ย
TINSLEY BACK ON TRACK
Junior RHP Taylor Tinsley has allowed just two baserunners (2 H) and has not given up a run over her last three outings (2 GS, 3 APP, 0 R, 13.0 IP). The dominant stretch dates back to her no-hitter at San Diego State on March 8. Last week, Tinsley helped UCLA to two of its wins in the series sweep of Purdue thanks to a solid 5.0-inning start with 10 strikeouts in game one and a scoreless inning of relief for a save in game two. Tinsley has dropped her earned run average by 74 points since she allowed two runs in the first inning to Arizona on March 1 from 3.00 to 2.26.
ย
SECOND CAREER NO-HITTER FOR TINSLEY
Junior RHP Taylor Tinsley recorded the second no-hitter of her career โ€“ and her first in seven innings โ€“ versus San Diego State at SDSU Softball Stadium on March 8. Tinsley struck out nine batters and allowed just two baserunners โ€“ one walk and one via fielding error โ€“ in her spectacular outing. Tinsley's first career no-hitter came in her collegiate debut versus CSU Bakersfield at Easton Stadium her freshman season in 2023. Her no-hitter versus the Aztecs came against a San Diego State program that has made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and won the last three Mountain West Conference championships.
ย
The performance marked the 124th total and 116th solo no-hitter in UCLA history, and was the team's first since Megan Faraimo's no-no against No. 3 Florida in February 2023. Tinsley's no-no was also UCLA's first seven-inning no-hitter since March 22, 2020 when then-senior Holly Azevedo no-hit No. 9 Arizona.
ย
SLIMP SHADY
OF Rylee Slimp ranks fifth among NCAA DI freshmen with a .436 batting average (34-for-78). The Georgetown, Texas native is on pace to be the sixth freshman in UCLA history to hit above a .400 clip and the first since Kelli Godin in 2019 (.418). The UCLA freshman batting average record is .457 (84-for-184) set by Stacey Nuveman in 1997. Other UCLA freshmen to have hit above .400 include Aaliyah Jordan (2018, .429 AVG), Stephany LaRosa (2012, .436 AVG) and Natasha Watley (2000, .426 AVG). This season, Slimp leads UCLA with four three-hit performances and has started every game in left field. A keen eye at the plate, Slimp is also tops on the squad with a .531 on-base percentage (15 BB, 2 HBP).
ย
.400's UP
Four players are currently hitting above .400 entering week six of the 2025 season: UTIL Savannah Pola (.455), OF Rylee Slimp (.436), INF Jordan Woolery (.422) and OF Jessica Clements (.410). UCLA has had two or more players hit above .400 for an entire season in 10 campaigns, last occurring in 2020 when Aaliyah Jordan and Briana Perez reached the benchmark. Only once have the Bruins had three players hit above .400, happening in 1995 thanks to Jennifer Brundage, Tanya Harding and Kelly Howard.
ย
GONE FISHIN'
Freshman RHP Addisen Fisher has started her collegiate career with a perfect 9-0 record, ranking second on the staff with 56.0 innings pitched and third with a 2.50 earned run average. Fisher is one of 21 NCAA DI pitchers, and one of two freshmen in the nation, to own a flawless record (min. 30.0 IP & 5 wins). The last UCLA freshman to win nine or more games before drawing their first loss was Kaitlyn Terry who started last year 12-0. Fisher, from Bend, Ore., arrived at UCLA as the 2024 Gatorade Softball National Player of the Year and the consensus No. 1-ranked recruit in her class. Fisher is also the first player in program history to hail from the state of Oregon.
ย
DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT
UCLA is ranked second in NCAA DI with a .983 fielding percentage, committing 14 errors in 816 total chances. Six UCLA players have committed an error, and only one of those Bruins has been responsible for multiple errors (Seneca Curo, 8 E). UCLA last finished the year ranked top 10 nationally in fielding percentage and with above .980-plus rate in the 2013 season (.980, 2nd).
This performance is amidst a reshuffling of infield positions due to freshman SS Aleena Garcia's season-ending injury. Beginning March 1 (10 games), junior Jordan Woolery moved from first base to third base, freshman Kaniya Bragg moved from third base to shortstop and junior Megan Grant moved from right field/designated player to first base as a result of the loss of Garcia.
ย
GRANT MAKES HISTORY
Junior UTIL Megan Grant tied a 12-year-old UCLA record with a home run in five straight games from March 1-8, matching the original mark set by All-America outfielder B.B. Bates in 2013. Before Grant accomplished the feat, then-redshirt junior Maya Brady came next closest with a homer in four straight games in 2023. Grant's dominant five-game stretch matched her home run output coming into week five, improving her season total to 10.
ย
IOWA SERIES HISTORY
UCLA leads the all-time series versus Iowa, 5-1, dating back to 1996. This weekend will mark the first games in the series played at a home/away venue. The Bruins and Hawkeyes last met in the 2023 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic where UCLA edged out a 2-1 victory against then-freshman Iowa starter Jalen Adams who pitched a complete game. Megan Grant, Savannah Pola and Jordan Woolery all starred the game. Grant hit a game-tying sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to knot the score at a run apiece. Pola was the only Bruin in the lineup to record multiple hits (2-for-3).
ย
KT LEADS THE STAFF
Sophomore LHP Kaitlyn Terry leads UCLA's pitching staff with 12 wins, a 1.44 earned run average, 92 strikeouts, 77.2 innings pitched, a .175 opponent batting average, five complete games and a 0.89 WHIP. Terry's standout performance of the season thus far came against No. 22 Missouri on Feb. 20 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic when she struck out a career-high 14 batters and allowed just one run in a complete-game victory. She has three career double-digit strikeout performances.
ย
Last year, Terry was named the 2024 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, clinching UCLA's fifth such honor over the past seven seasons. Terry became the seventh freshman in UCLA history to win 20-plus games (21-3) in her debut season and first since Garcia in 2017. Terry led last season's staff with 182.0 innings pitched and recorded a 2.38 ERA, 161 strikeouts and .232 opponent batting average.
ย
FRESHMEN FILLING IN
At least three freshmen have started in UCLA's batting lineup for all 31 games this season. INF Kaniya Bragg and OF Rylee Slimp have started in every game; Bragg has started 21 games at third base and 10 at shortstop while Slimp has started all 31 in left field. Together, the five freshmen have contributed to 35.3 percent of UCLA's total hit production (97 of the team's 275 total hits). As a unit, they are hitting for a .339 batting average (97-for-286).
ย
CLEMENTS KEEPS CLIMBING
Graduate transfer outfielder Jessica Clements ranks ninth among active NCAA DI players in career hits (228) and tenth career batting average (.411). Clements ranks second on the team and is tied for 12th in the country with 43 base hits this season. Additionally, Clements ranks second on the team with 13 multi-hit games in 2025 and leads UCLA career-wise with 65 such performances over her four years.
ย
Clements recorded the 200th hit of her career with a bunt single versus Virginia at the Clearwater Invitational on Feb. 16. She leads UCLA with two three-hit performances and ranks second with six total multi-hit games. Clements was a two-time Big West Batting Champion in 2022 and 2024 while at Cal Poly for three seasons. She finished her Mustang career as the leading hitter in program history with a .411 batting average (185-for-450).
