Fisher Twirls Shutout Gem in 8-0 Win at No. 5 Oregon

April 19, 2025 | Softball

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman starting pitcher Addisen Fisher pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the No. 6-ranked UCLA softball team to an 8-0 victory in six innings against No. 5 Oregon in front of a sold-out crowd of 2,517 fans at Jane Sanders Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Fisher, a native of Bend, Ore., was masterful her return to her home state with three strikeouts and allowing only three hits and one walk. Fisher threw 60 of her 86 total pitches for strikes for a 72.3 percent strike rate, marking her best in a start in a season. Fisher's performance was also the Bruins' (41-6, 13-2 Big Ten) first complete-game shutout over a top-10 foe since Taylor Tinsley who blanked then-No. 5 Stanford on the same date (April 19) last season.

Fisher remains the only undefeated freshman in the country with a 14-0 record and dropped her earned run average to 2.09.

With today's result, UCLA extended its program single-season record for mercy-rule wins to 24 and defeated the Ducks (40-5, 13-2 Big Ten) who lost in mercy-rule fashion for the first time this year.

The Bruins' offense totaled nine hits and five walks. Freshman Kaniya Bragg (2-for-3, HR), sophomore Kaitlyn Terry (2-for-2) and Jordan Woolery (2-for-3, 2B) all finished with multiple hits.

All eight of UCLA's runs were scored with two outs, six of which came in the sixth inning.

Terry singled to left field and center fielder Jessica Clements reached on a high chopper up the middle to start the sixth inning rally. A walk to senior Savannah Pola loaded the bases with one out for Woolery. On an 0-1 count, Woolery hit a rocket into the left-center gap to clear the bases and extend the Bruins' lead to 5-0. Pola barely beat the cutoff throw home, diving head first to beat the tag and score from first base.

Oregon's fourth pitcher of the ballgame Taylour Spencer threw a wild pitch during an intentional walk to Megan Grant, putting runners on the corners for Bragg. Bragg made the Ducks pay for their decision, unloading on the first pitch she saw for a three-run homer to bring the score to 8-0.

Fisher worked around trouble throughout her scoreless outing, leaving four runners on base. In the first inning, Oregon's Kedre Luschar single and stole second to put a runner in scoring position with one away. Fisher induced back-to-back groundouts to get out of the jam.

Fisher retired a stretch of seven consecutive batters from the end of the second through the fourth before facing her next obstacle in the fifth inning. Once again, with a runner on third, Fisher produced two straight groundouts to erase the threat. Bragg, who finished the game with seven assists at shortstop, fielded a hard-hit ball on a backhand and threw over to first for the final out.

Oregon used three pitchers to get through the first two innings. After Ducks starting pitcher Lyndsey Grein retired the Bruins in order in the first, Bragg and Alexis Ramirez hit a pair of singles in the second inning to knock reliever Stacy Chambers out of the game.

UCLA scored its first two runs of the day in the third inning off Elise Sokolsky. Terry walked and Clements reached on a chopper to shortstop that was mishandled to put the wheels in motion. A sacrifice bunt by Pola advanced the runners into scoring position. Woolery hit a deep fly ball to score Terry who tagged up from third base. Clements came around to score on the first of Sokolsky's two wild pitches in her outing.
