No. 6 Softball Drops Series Finale to No. 5 Oregon, 9-0

April 20, 2025 | Softball

EUGENE, Ore. โ€“ The No. 6-ranked UCLA softball team fell to No. 5 Oregon in a Big Ten Conference series finale, 9-0, in five innings at Jane Sanders Stadium Sunday afternoon.
ย
The Bruins (41-7, 13-3 Big Ten) were limited to just three hits by Ducks (41-5, 14-2 Big Ten) starting pitcher Lyndsey Grein who picked up her 25th win of the season. Redshirt sophomore designated player Alexis Ramirez (2-for-2) collected two of UCLA's three hits. Junior infielder Jordan Woolery was the only other Bruin in the hit column.
ย
Offensively, Oregon recorded its nine runs with seven hits, three walks and a throwing error off UCLA's three arms of Kaitlyn Terry, Addisen Fisher and Taylor Tinsley. Terry, who started and suffered her fourth loss of the year (15-4), was knocked out of the game after giving up two runs in the first inning and walking the leadoff batter in the third.
ย
Terry opened the game by drilling leadoff batter Kai Luschar with a pitch. Kai Luschar, who reached base three times and scored three runs without recording a hit in the game (1 HBP, 2 BB), advanced to second on a wild pitch and came around to score on a single by Rylee McCoy. Terry's second wild pitch of the inning allowed McCoy to move up 60 more feet to second base. A single by Paige Sinicki brought McCoy home, giving the Ducks an early 2-0 advantage.
ย
The Bruins attempted to answer in the top half of the second. Freshman Kaniya Bragg walked with one away, but was tagged out the next play by Oregon's second baseman on an inning-ending 4-3 double play.
ย
Kai Luschar took advantage of her second free pass from Terry to open the home half of the third inning. She put herself in scoring position on the very next pitch by stealing second base. Kai Luschar came around to score on an RBI triple off the center field wall by her sister Kedre Luschar, pushing the Ducks' lead to 3-0. Kedre Luschar scored Oregon's fourth run of the day by getting into a rundown on a fielder's choice hit to third base and a throwing error by UCLA catcher Sofia Mujica into right field.
ย
Woolery singled in the top of the fourth to put a runner on first with one out again for UCLA. However, Bragg hit a line drive that was caught by Oregon shortstop Paige Sinicki. Sinicki then flipped the ball over to second base to throw out Woolery who was already well on her way to third base.
ย
Fisher allowed the first two batters of the home half of the fourth to reach on infield single and full-count walk. The next Duck, Kaylynn Jones, hit her first career homer on the seventh pitch of her at-bat to extend Oregon's lead to 7-0. A walk and two more base hits plated the next two runs to put the Ducks on the precipice of a run-rule victory.
ย
Ramirez doubled before the game came to an end, marking UCLA's first run-rule loss of the season.
