No. 25 Bruins Finish Regular Season at Triton Invitational Saturday

LOS ANGELES โ€“ No. 25 UCLA Rowing heads south for its final regular season regatta; the Bruins will compete in the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego on Saturday, April 26.

The Bruins will send six shells to San Diego for the morning racing session. UCLA will face UCSD and the University of San Diego across the five races Saturday. Results will be posted at the conclusion of the day.

The 25th-ranked Bruins look to build off the momentum they gained at the Big Ten Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., last weekend; UCLA showed off its depth in the early sessions and finished with strong racing in the third and final session. With the result, the Bruins cracked the Pocock CRCA Poll's top 25 for the first time this season when the poll released Tuesday, April 22.

FRIDAY RESULTS
UCLA finished ahead of a top 25 team in nine of the 12 races held Friday. The Bruins' 1V4+ took down the team's first ranked opponent on the day. The four-person shell outpaced a familiar foe, No. 17 Oregon State, and finished fourth in the heat (7:27.836). The 2V8+ continued the momentum and proved to be a steady boat throughout the day; the second varsity shell completed the 2,000-meter races in 6:38.201 and 6:39.574 to claim back-to-back top three finishes. The boat only trailed ranked opponents on the day.

The third varsity boats had success in both sessions Friday; the 3V4+ and 3V8+ finished in the top three in both of their races in Sarasota. The four-person shell knocked off No. 20 Oklahoma, No. 21 Indiana and No. 24 USC while the 3V8+ picked off No. 16 Duke and No. 21 Indiana.

SATURDAY RESULTS
The Bruins got out to a good start in the 3V8+ to begin Saturday's competition. UCLA trailed No. 24 USC and Notre Dame by less than six seconds for a third-place finish to open the final round of racing. The second varsity four continued the momentum for the Bruins and recorded a 7:39.793 to place second in its final appearance of the weekend.

UCLA (6:41.048) outpaced Notre Dame (6:41.501) for an impressive second-place finish in the 1V8+ flight Saturday morning in Florida. The Bruins edged out the Fighting Irish by less than five tenths of a second after a hard-fought 2,000-meter race and finished only behind No. 18 Harvard-Radcliffe.

The 3V4+ shot out to a lead in the final race of the weekend, maintaining open water in the second half as the Bruins took home a first-place finish to close out the Big Ten Invitational. UCLA took down No. 21 Indiana (8:02.896), No. 24 USC (8:07.882) and No. 20 Oklahoma (8:17.639) in the final flight of the weekend.
