OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. โ Five UCLA softball alumnae were selected to the USA Softball Women's National Team to compete at the 2025 World Games, taking place Aug. 13-17 in Chengdu, China, leading all college programs. The Bruins named to the roster include Maya Brady (2020-24), Ally Carda (2012-15), Megan Faraimo (20219-23), Rachel Garcia (2016-19; 2021) and Bubba Nickles (2017-19; 2021).
ย
Carda, Garcia and Nickles are three of four members on the roster who helped Team USA earn silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
ย
The inclusion of softball in the 2025 Games marks its fourth total appearance, following its latest inclusion in 2022, which saw record-breaking attendance for the gold medal matchup against Japan, resulting in a thrilling 3-2 victory for the Eagles.
ย
Eight teams will compete at the 2025 World Games, including the top six ranked teams by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC): World No. 1 USA, No. 2 Japan, No. 3 Puerto Rico, No. 4 Chinese Taipei, No. 5 Netherlands, and No. 6 Canada. A wild card was awarded to No. 10 Australia as the highest-ranking team in Oceania, and No. 12 China has a spot as the host.
ย
Team USA is the reigning champion, earning gold at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. Carda, Faraimo and Nickles were members of that 2022 USA WNT squad. Carda recorded the championship-winning final out and fanned seven batters in her relief outing.
